Negative experience: I don’t write reviews so the fact that I took the time to write shows how awful my experience at Tropic Days was. My sister and I have traveled to many countries and stayed at hundreds of hostels but never experienced one this bad. Upon arrival I entered our two bedroom room with the room hardly prepared nor cleaned. I’m not too picky but the amount of money we were paying I thought it was a bit unfair. As we continued our stay we were closely watched and judged by the owners not only thru there several camera but to our faces. To be fair we did have some friends visit occasionally during the day and only had been told after that we had to ask permission but “not every time” which was confusing, along with several other rules they only stated harshly after. Now I would not take the time out of my day to write a bad review about a small town hostel but the treatment myself and SEVERAL other guest received was unacceptable. Cath and Gary were horrible unkind hostesses in a hostel that should be welcoming considering that businesses thrive by word of mouth. I would understand the treatment we received if we were loud, rude, uncleanly and didn’t follow the rules but even as we were leaving I had just cleaned the room to the best of my abilities considering I was in the hospital for several days and I was still threatened by Cathy herself claiming that “this is a small town and we know people”. I know this is a long well deserving bad review but if you take the time to read this I HIGHLY do not recommend either of their hostels as you will never feel welcome and not to mention it’s way out of the way from central cairns. I truly hope that Tropic Days can grow and learn to treat other young travellers who are far from home with kindness.

Fantastic experience: Sorry Cathy ! Very very late review from me (apologies) I had the best time staying here. Cathy and Gabriel are the most caring and welcoming hosts. Tropic days is like a little family (but also so welcoming to newbies like me), I could have stayed there for months. I was travelling by myself and ended up having my birthday at tropic days and was treated to a feast of massaman curry along with a beautifully cooked red snapper (+ lots of fun and drinks) cooked by the other guests. The hostel has a really chilled out vibe in the day where you can hang out by the pool or the outside seating area and hammocks + board games and telly inside. There is really fun interactive nights which gets everyone together, including a digeridoo blowing competition - which I was not so successful in. Such fond memories, I highly recommend. Top tip - the front desk are fabulous for organising any tours and excursions you fancy at a great price, so no need to go to the dreaded travel agents ❤️

Fantastic experience: Wir lieben es! Preis-Leistung stimmt. Man sieht das es mit viel Herz erbaut und ausgestattet wurde. Auch jetzt novh sind Gabriel und Kathy mit viel Herz dabei - bei jeder Frage oder Problem wird schnell geholfen. Wir konnten sogar Fahrräder ausleihen, da wir etwas weiter weg arbeiten. Wir fühlen uns sehr gut aufgehoben und können es in jedem Fall weiter empfehlen ♥️

Fantastic experience: Easily one of the best hostels in Australia. The owners are on-site and you can feel how passionate they are about their business. So much attention to detail to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Plenty of areas to relax and hang out. Helpful and kind. I definitely recommend to stay here if you are in Cairns.

Fantastic experience: Tropic Days was a dreamy little oasis that felt more like a share house of friends rather than a hostel. Cleaned daily and to a higher standard than I have seen at any other hostel, the share facilities such as the kitchens and bathrooms were fantastic. The staff were warm and bubbly like minded people who were always happy to help. There were plenty of great places to hang out around the pool, hammock and yoga zone. I could not more highly recommend a stay here.

Couldn’t recommend this place and its beautiful people more — can’t wait for the next visit.

Fantastic experience: Stopped in for a one night stay and the bloke that showed us around was a legend, super friendly and gave us good tips on where to see on our travels. Great atmosphere, different in a good way from a normal dorm hostel and everyone was happy and friendly

Beds comfortable, Owners, staff and permanent residents are welcoming and make for a very chill experience. Will be happy to go back.

Fantastic experience: Tropic Days is a great place to stay for a number of reasons: -Its exceptionally well cleaned compared to other hostels. The owner herself does cleaning and maintenance on regular basis -The rooms are well designed and comfortable to stay. You have three individual beds rather than bunk beds, this reduces number of people sharing and more convenient than 4 share bunk beds -The staff there - John and Tina from Tree Huggers Travel are really nice. They run a tour agency within the hostel. Tree Huggers have planned my entire itinerary, and closely helped me where needed. They are also well connected to the tour groups and have helped me to get the most competitive rate on tours. -People here are also not wild party animals and a pretty fair mix of nationality and backgrounds (than other hostels I've heard from fellow travellers).

Positive experience: Beautiful hostel, amazing common areas, full of plants. Staff is super friendly and guests too. John can also help you booking tours around the area. You have to pay for air-con. Our room was really small and hot, so it was impossible to be there just with the fan.

Fantastic experience: Perfect calm oasis in Cairns. The hostel has excellent service, the kitchen is very clean and have everything you need and the garden is a nice place to hang out. Perfect for those who don’t feel like a “party hostel”

Fantastic experience: Beautiful hostel!! I'm usually hesitant to book a hostel for fear of loudness, sleep interruptions etc.. however my husband and I were very pleasantly surprised!!! The staff were friendly, environmentally-focused, helpful and kind-hearted. Gorgeous vibe and outdoor/indoor areas. We found the other guests to be quiet and considerate. We stayed in a budget room. Which was perfect for us! The little fridge, powerful ceiling fan and bed were great. Though the building is old, cleanliness is maintained to a high standard!! We highly recommend this hostel A++

Fantastic experience: הוסטל עם וויבים יותר רגועים ושקטים. אווירה טובה ומשפחתית. כל ההוסטל נראה יותר כמו בית מאשר הוסטל רגיל. יש סלון וינטג', מטבח קטן ורגיל. יתרונות נוספים: יש מחשבים לטובת הכלל, מקפיא, גינת ירק לשימוש האורחים, ארוחת ערב חינמית פעם בשבוע, אופניים להשכרה בחינם ודילים זולים במיוחד לאטרקציות מסביב. אני ממש ממש אהבתי פה הכל ומקווה לחזור בשנית.

Fantastic experience: Where do I even start? LOVE this place! Incredibly friendly and personable staff who go out of their way to help. We got a full rundown about tours and what to do in the Daintree rainforest / surrounding areas from John who is so knowledgeable. Such a lovely vibe in the hostel and the garden/hammock area is a tropical oasis! Lovely and clean kitchen area which was very well stocked. Great WiFi. The bed was sooo comfy. Fantastic experience: Me quedé con dos amigas en habitaciones privadas. El lugar tiene un toque de queda después de las 10 por lo que se puede dormir cómodamente. El sitio está limpio, tiene actividades extras y un jardín muy bonito.John nos atendió de forma muy cordial, y pudimos llegar más tarde de la hora acordada. John también nos dio sugerencias de qué lugares podríamos visitar a los alrededores, lo cual hizo de nuestra experiencia en Cairns mucho mejor de lo que esperábamos. Una cosa que recomiendo es confirmar el booking directamente, ya que la primera noche no se reservó correctamente.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful hostel, good vibe, lovely and helpful owners & staff and great decorations! They have their own vegetable garden and chickens! Nice swimming pool and other common area’s with pool table! Would definitely stay here again and we stayed longer than expected since we did not want to leave this lovely place!

Fantastic experience: Closest place youll find to stay that's lile a home. Been here for a month during covid and will stay longer even after they are lifted. Chillest place and its like a tropical oasis out the back. Smoking tent, hammocks, pool, pool table, yoga mats, vege garden, chickens wandering around. Love the movie nights and free food nights. Such a community. Also super clean rooms, showers and amenities. We lucked out here and so happy we did. Cheers John and Tina and the rest of the crew at tropicdays!

Fantastic experience: Awesome! The best hostel in the world! They provide everything you need for your comfortable staying, the staff is very friendly and ready to assist you. They provide 8-times a day bus transfer to the town center for free. Hire a bike also for free. Monday night is a BBQ party, Thursday is a pizza day only for $5. It is always very clean. Green tropical plants, a swimming pool, a pool table and other things create a relaxing atmosphere. This is definitely not just a place for sleep.

Fantastic experience: The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at - no contest. The place is immaculate and has a very social atmosphere. I spent many hours peacefully reading in a garden hammock, or in the pool. The staff and owners are very friendly and fun too! The location isn’t superb, as it’s a 15 minute walk to the nearest shop - however there are regular free shuttle buses and free bikes so no problem! A social hostel rather than a party hostel. Make sure to catch the Monday night BBQ! Air con is $1 for 3 hours.

Fantastic experience: Best Hostel. Its pretty cheap but has the most chill atmosphere. There's a bunch of hammocks. A very nice smoking area. A very nice pool. Very kind and helpful staff. Multiple kitchens and they even have an oven. Very clean everywhere. Plus its close to the center but has free car parking.

Man merkt dem Hostel wirklich an wofür es gemacht ist, super übersichtlich strukturiert, sehr nettes und hilfsbereites Personal, viele Badezimmer und alles ist sehr sauber. Man kann sehr gut dort entspannen bei guter Musik und einem Billiard Tisch. Features wie ein persönlicher Bus to town und free breakfast sind ebenfalls mit drin. Nur zu empfehlen

Fantastic experience: Sooo nice staff! And very cosy place. Like a boheminan house, with kitchen and living rooms like home. Plus a lot of things included, like bikes and breakfast etc. Monday bbq var great! Tried a brunch of hostles in Cairns and this is my favourite. Comfy beds as well.

Fantastic experience: I love Tropic Days Backpackers ! It’s my favorite hostel in Australia (at least on the East Coast). It’s clean and cosy and the vibes are very good over there ! The staff and owner are very friendly and funny, there is BBQ on Monday night where you can try Crocodile, Kangaroo and Emu meat... then there is a didgeridoo competition, a lot of fun ! I was sad leaving this place and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did ! Thank you Tropic Days team ☀️

Fantastic experience: Chilled and laidback hostel, clean cool outside and inside areas. Matress could be a bit better. Otherwise i would recommend it. Tho its a bit far from the central and the esplanade, the run free bus shuttles many times a day, and can hire free bike as well. Fast and free wifi and a light breakfast included in the price. One of the best hostels for me in Cairns.

You make people feel like friends, not just customers, but still maintain to be professional AF. I have spent a lot of nights in more than 2 months in this hostel and have never been to a better one. Negative experience: This residence is just appropriate to long traveller. The reason that i give low grade is that i am short traveller. The strong point is that (if you like Western people, you can meet them easily. Because main customer of this residence is European) But, there are some weak points. First, it is far from Cairns city. Of course, they manage 'shuttle bus' every one hour, but i think it is pity that you want to enjoy 'Cairns night'. Additionally, it is hard to get food or drink... It is hard to eat morining... Second, the room is not clean in mixed dormitory. Because backpackers in this residence often stay longer time.. So, they don't clean their room. Of course, you get single or double room, that is not problem. Eventually, i suggest that you separate room between long travellers and short-travellers.

Fantastic experience: LOVED! Stayed here with my group of students and we absolutely loved it. Cool ambience, tropical, lots of nooks and crannies to hang out in, comfortable rooms and very homey feeling. Kathy was super helpful with helping us find a special place to celebrate our last night in town!! Thank you :)

Fantastic experience: Super netter Empfang und wunderschöne Location mit tropischem Garten; Hängematten im Garten und ein hübscher Pool. Als wie spät ankamen, gab es gerade BBQ und Didgeridoo-Unterricht. Die Klimaanlage ist kostenpflichtig aber günstig. Alles ist total liebevoll eingerichtet, eher wie Zuhause als ein Hostel. Ein Shuttle fährt kostenlos mehrmals täglich in die Stadt. Super!

Fantastic experience: AMAZING staff and environment. Super laid back and friendly, above all, super helpful. Both to get you checked in or to help you book your trips. Rooms were not overcrowded, shower and toilets were clean, the pool is great and the outdoor space as well. Stayed here because a friend recommended and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! It might be away from the center but they have an hourly shuttle and if you're in a group and want to go out you can get back with an uber (for most trips you can get picked up at the hostel, no problem)

Positive experience: A decent accommodation and friendly service. The only thing is it is a little away from happening. They do make up for it by a shuttle service which at the time we were there were not the most reliable. The Monday BBQ is meant to be great. Really clean and great backyard and everything else. The bed could have been firmer :)

Fantastic experience: The BEST hostel I've ever stayed in! After travelling for over a year I am so lucky to have stayed in Tropic Days and end on a high! The atmosphere is perfect, lots of places to hang out and meet all the lovely people staying here but it's tranquil so you can get your beauty sleep or relax by the beautiful pool. The rooms are spacious, wonderfully decorated and cool plus this is the cleanest hostel you'll ever stay in! The staff are so friendly and willing to help with anything you need, thank you Lucy for an amazing trip and I'm now in love with Cairns! I will definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: Very clean hostel. Only con is that its a bit outside the city ~15 minute walk. but about 9 transport buses a day. Staff are well informed and made an afterhours check in super easy.

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for 2 months when I first got to Cairns. Very homely feel to the hostel, it was definitely the cleanest hostel I have ever stayed at. Great BBQ every week, free pool table, free parking outside, two kitchens, camping area, swimming pool!! Good value for money for everything they have there. It's about a 20 minute walk to central or a 5 minute drive. They have 4 huge lockers upstairs, I could fit all my camera gear in there with my laptop. Thank you Kerri & Chelsea for all your help, great people to have around the hostel :)

Fantastic experience: Travelled around the world twice and this is possibly the best/second bets hostel I have ever stayed in. Gabriel the owner is amazing! The staff are lovely, it's clean, cosy and it's one of those typical party hostels that most of Cairns is known for. On Mondays he has a family style BBQ which is epic. They have many contacts for all activities and when you book for them you get great discounts. Trust me you won't be disappointed in staying here!

Positive experience: The hostel is very clean, and the people here are always up for a talk. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Just the fact that the ac costs 1$ per 3h is (under the conditions Cairns hits you with) really annoying... otherwise it is a well sorted hostel with a nice common area and the location is not a problem since they got their own shuttle service.

Fantastic experience: 도심에서 걸어서 20분 정도로 가깝지는 않지만, 매 시간마다 셔틀버스를 운행 중이라 불편함 없이 여행을 즐길 수 있었다. 방 교환이나 동전 교환(센트 여러 개들을 10달러로 바꿔달라는 요청에 흔쾌히 바꿔줬다.) 등 귀찮은 부탁들에도 불평 하나 없이 자신들의 즐거움이라며 열심히 응해주었다. 침실이나 화장실도 깔끔하고, 소란스럽지 않다. 무엇보다 가장 인상적인 점은 이 숙소 만의 분위기이다. 인도 풍과 트로피컬한 분위기만으로 이 숙소를 즐겨야 할 이유에 충분히 충족시킨다. 비비큐 파티 등 다양한 숙소 내 프로그램 또한 인상적이다. 케언즈에서 멋진 추억을 쌓고 싶다면 트로픽 데이즈로 오길 추천한다.

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a good priced backpackers in Cairns, look no further than Tropic Days. This was my first experience at a backpackers and I loved every minute of it. They have a free shuttle service into town and have different events most nights. There is also a pool with nice tropical surroundings to cool off in. The staff are very helpful. This was a fantastic experience!
