Fantastic experience: A great hostel, perfectly located, I made a lot of friends there, the staff were super friendly, especially Nora and Georgia gave me a very nice farewell and helped me a lot, so I can well imagine coming back to this hostel when I'm looking for accommodation in Sydney again. Thank you for the wonderful time!

Fantastic experience: This is a great hostel to stay in, especially with the location being right near all the city life. I’ve stayed here a couple times now and both stays have been enjoyable. The workers are amazing as well, Georgia and Luna were great and helped out a lot!

Positive experience: One of the best hostels in the world i ever been, just little things to adjust to make it a 10/10 What i like it: - very central location, is near the sydney town hall - Young amazing staff always available for any information, they have tours inside and outside the city. At the check-out I was asked how was my stay and what did not like, that is a big plus and amazing customer service (A BIG THANKS TO ELLA & JOSH, along with all the reception staff) - Reception available 24 hours BUT main door close at 8pm - GOKI app to have your own room key and main door entrance with Bluetooth access on the phone (make sure your phone is always charged) - Well connected with transportation and you can walk to reach it - Big place with all young people and facilities - Spacious room, locker available (bring your own padlock or buy one), shelf available to put your belongings, light and socket available BUT THERE IS NO CURTAIN at the window to cover the day light - Good spacious toilets and showers, always clean at all time BUT NO SHELF AVAILABLE OUTSIDE THE SHOWER - Massive kitchen with all pots,pans,cutlery, fridge,vending machine, kettle ( you can cook an actual meal in it) BUT IT CLOSES AT 10PM (midnight maybe would be better) - Cash machine ATM available (obviously there is an extra charge to withdraw) - Laundry - Dryer - Big Luggage store BUT the door is always open till 11pm, there is a camera cctv inside but could be lock and get a code i suppose - Free water dispenser in reception area - Massive area with games, sofas, books to read and exchange - Green policies to help environment/communities - A great vibe with international young guests and some free drinks / snacks available at the PUB Scary Canary next to the hostel Would I come back? YES What did not like much: - wifi works but it gets on/off sometimes due to having many people connected - Outside the shower there could be an area to put your belongings, rather than putting on the floor - There was no window curtain to cover the sunlight, in my room, but apparently other rooms have - Toilets can be bit far away from actually rooms - Kitchen closes at 10pm, could be closing later i suppose - The noise coming from the pub next to it during evening/nights, for me was minimal, but it depends where are you located. Maybe could offer some earplugs to sleep? Don’t know just sharing a thought - Squiky noisy locker for luggage as it can be a bit disturbing but it does the job

Fantastic experience: Great place Nora and brits really helpful gave me a free upgrade for singing a Christmas song and they didn’t laugh at all.

Negative experience: The room we had booked and paid for was supposed to have aircon, the room we got had no aircon or opening windows which only strengthened the mould that was growing the corner of the room. The staff were unable to help and kept promising that it would be fixed, making us feel like the staff are hoping you just check out and pay the bill. Would not recommend, a low tier back packers that in my opinion is only operating as a tourist trap

Fantastic experience: Nomads sydney is a home away from home and you wont find many places like that in sydney australia. I cant stress enough how much i have enjoyed my time here and if i could i would have stayed longer and i would like to leave a special mention to the amazing staff. Brit: might be one of the friendliest people you will meet in your travels and will ensure that you have the best time ever in sydney australia and i truly mean that Nora: an amazing person and the best dutch person you may ever meet Eddie: exceptional maintenance manager and if you have a problem he's is the guy to go and see Ella: kindest and most helpful person if you have a question about your travels or have anything to book she is the one to see. Robbie: absolute lad, may just be one of your best mates in aus if you are lucky Josh: BULLY! Nah im kidding, funniest guy you'll meet and he's got a great tash Millie: her door knocking skills can put any ones else's to shame, super funny and super friendly Aya: top dog in the hostle activities group. She leads some of the best events in the hostle that you'll have an absolute blast at Ciera: its like she was born to run activities and if you find your self bored in the hostle she's the one to go and see Tilly: she may sound english but she is indeed scottish! And not only that but super friendly and an absalout laugh Sophie: best of the best if you have any needs for work and travel, so if you are looking for work or to settle down make sure to pop down to WTC and see her Tom: manages what may be thr best bar you can go to in sydney the scary canary. Make sure to pop down for monday madness, tuesday discos and the wettest of Wednesday's Dj diln: best DJ in all of sydney make sure to get your self down to scary canary on a monday for bingo and see his exceptional DJ'ing Sophia: and id you find your self thirsty for a bevy at scary canary sophia has got you covered. Make sure to ask for a cocktail because her skills are second to none. Vincent: and when you are done with your drink Vincent has got you covered hell have that bad boy cleared up sharp. Gemma: super friendly and will make sure you get your drink sharp as. Grace: another reason why scaries is run so well. Truly exceptional management If you are looking for a hostel to stay at in sydney than look no further you'll not find a better place to stay.

Negative experience: I’m giving this hotel one star purely for the privacy of having a queen-sized bed in a room to myself. Everything else, however, was absolutely dreadful. I regret not reading all the reviews before spending over $300 for two awful nights here. I'm convinced the management must be paying for those five-star reviews or that the people who rated it so highly were under some kind of substance. Whatever it was, I would like some to forget my experience here. Where do I even begin? Let’s start with the staff—the one at the front desk, at least, because the cleaning staff were nowhere to be found. I arrived on a Wednesday around 11 AM. The first receptionist was nice and polite, but she told me I couldn’t check in until 3 PM and that early check-in wasn’t available. She gave me a QR code for an app called Goki and told me to check the room’s availability there. I figured I’d charge my phone while waiting. Now, let’s talk about the lounge/waiting area where I spent my time charging my phone. When I walked in, I saw a lot of people sitting on old, ripped-up chairs and couches that looked like they should have been thrown out. The walls had cracks and holes, and the entire room reeked of a terrible smell. The floors weren’t clean, and everyone seemed miserable, staring blankly at their phones without speaking to each other. After getting about 30% charge on my phone, and with three hours still to go until check-in, I decided to ask if I could store my bag somewhere so I could grab lunch and, honestly, but I really need to take a shower. Another staff member (also nice) showed me and another guest the storage room. I’m not sure how to adequately describe this “storage room,” but it was filled with piles of old, dirty backpacks and luggages scattered around with no locks or security. I found a corner to hide my luggage behind someone else's, hoping it wouldn't get stolen. And the smell in there was just awful. I then needed to use the bathroom, so I went downstairs to the public one. It was filthy and smelled bad. I brushed my teeth while holding my breath, and I didn’t even attempt to use the toilet—it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. I have no idea how anyone could use it casually. PLEASE CONTINUE READING UNDER “Noteworthy Details” & “Rooms” I WROTE SO MUCH AND COULDN’T FIT EVERYTHING HERE To sum up, all the negative reviews about this place are absolutely true. Do yourself a favor and research other options before wasting your money here. The staff, while occasionally polite, were mostly lazy and unhelpful. Even if you’re on a budget, you can definitely find a cleaner, more professional place to stay. The hostel I stayed at after leaving this place was cheaper, cleaner, and had far better staff. If you value your health and sanity, avoid this hostel at all costs.

Fantastic experience: A quick overnight stay with helpful and friendly staff who helped manage expectations. Can’t complain but hope you can stay longer!

Negative experience: I was here just over a month ago and I can remember this place being absolutely awful. Although I got a free upgrade to a room with only one bunk-bed which meant that there was only two people in the room, the room was directly above the nightclub/bar and every single night there's always something going on and it's virtually impossible to get a good night's sleep if you're unlucky and your room is above this bar. My bed sheets had some sort of red streaked stain on it, the kitchen & dining area was shockingly filthy (to add: the crockery, utensils, and electric stoves are beyond repair, they need replaced). You charge this amount of money and it seems you can't be bothered to maintain the kitchen. Kitchen and dining area must be considered a public health hazard. And there was also this weird smell that engulfed the whole hostel. Reception staff here were patronising, impolite, and unprofessional. The only three positives of my experience here were the laundry room was good, the en-suite bathroom was good (although waterflow of the taps was bad), and thanks to being in the city centre, it meant I was able to access things easily. I would only recommend this place if you are an insomniac and can't sleep or are there for an extremely short stay.

Negative experience: The kitchen is absolutely filthy and reeks to high heaven. It’s likely because the windows can’t be properly opened, making ventilation impossible. There’s barely any usable equipment, and the cleaning cloths look like they haven’t been replaced in decades. The washing machines and dryers are managed by an external company, which is probably why they’re perpetually dirty and often out of order. You’re better off buying your own detergent and finding alternatives. The common room is decent, but that’s about the only highlight. The beds are fairly comfortable, but everything else is an absolute disaster. Rooms are strewn with rubbish, old underwear, toothbrushes, and other junk left behind by guests who checked out days ago. While cleaning staff come daily, all they seem to do is empty the trash. The showers are revolting—when I asked the cleaner to address it, she seemed ready to leave it as-is before I intervened. The Wi-Fi is a complete joke. If you plan on staying here, make sure you have enough mobile data to get by. The staff are friendly enough, but honestly, you’d be better off paying a bit more and staying somewhere like the Wake Up Hostel. It’s hard to see where the money they earn is going. They should invest in fixing the kitchen or hiring competent cleaning staff. Your decision!

Negative experience: Would never come back! I left early because i couldn’t handle it anymore. First I got a room that smelled like mold it was really disgusting, you couldn’t open a window and the AC wasn’t working. I asked for an other room with AC. They gave me again a room without an AC or a room were you could open a window so the room was freaking hot. The elevator was out of order so I had to walk up and down to the fourth floor. Also the washing machines weren’t working properly. I selected cold wash and in the end my clothes were to small to put on because the temperature was to high. This hostel was a wast of money.

Positive experience: We had a very nice stay

Negative experience: Ideal place to stay if you are French/german looking to branch out and become friends with other French/german. Good location, lots of shops/restaurants in walking distance which you will need as kitchen area is always a mess. Not enough cooking utensils and the ones that are there are not clean. Bathroom’s also not clean, most showers don’t have hot water. If you’re lucky enough to find one that does the drain is clogged meaning you have to stand in other people’s dirty shower water. Hair and pubes on the shower floor when it is not clogged. Strong smell of must/ BO throughout the whole hostel as tradies leave their boots in the hall. Spacious rooms with no age limit for those wanting to stay giving ample room for your 70 year old dorm mate to leave his belongings in the middle of the floor. The speakers from scary canary are of top quality which can be heard throughout the entire hostel until 3am most nights however some of the djs go a little too hard on the bass which vibrates the room and beds. Most deluxe rooms are right above the club, perfect for those nights when you don’t want to get ready to go out as you get a deluxe experience of being at the club without having to set foot in it. Bunk beds are old and very squeaky which wakes everyone up if someone moves. Mattress’s very uncomfortable with a large dip in it from everyone else who wasted their money staying here. When asked if I could get a linen change I was handed the sheets to do it myself. None of this is reflected in the unjust price of these rooms and complete failure to mention the location of them. Although the hostel doesn’t have a smoking area you will find people smoking in the rooms which sets off the fire alarm at 2:30am. The hostel claimed to be wheelchair accessible but for the first part of my stay the lift was out of order, when it was fixed we were invited to try it out and it was like no other lift I’ve ever been in! Extremely slow and cramped! But no worries! Any issues were quickly resolved when maintenance staff knocked multiple times in the morning and woke up the whole dorm asking if they could paint the door. Despite having a beautiful freshly painted door to look at, the smell of paint failed to cover up the smell of urine that completely penetrated the room. I would NEVER stay at this hostel again. Still hope I can win a week in Melbourne though for leaving this review

Negative experience: Impossible to sleep with the noise. Imagine trying to sleep inside a pub and at the same time hearing hammers.

Negative experience: Arrived in the late evening, staff couldn't help us with car parking locations. Room was stinky and dirty, bathroom was humid and dirty. People weren't nice at all. Too many people in one hostel. Would not recommend at all!!!

Negative experience: Stayed here in early November. Staff was lovely but the facilities were terrible. No A/C in the rooms (or at least we were told that they couldn’t control it/ turn it on) and no elevator (despite claiming being wheelchair accessible) and our room was 5 floors up. The room was filthy when we got there (we were put in a room with long term residents) and 2/4 lockers in the room (4 total for 6 people) were stuck shut, contributing to the squalor. Additionally, bunk beds were broken, causing extreme commotion any time anyone in a top bunk moved at all.

Positive experience: Wouldn’t recommend to anyone to stay here, rooms and showers are really poor quality.

Negative experience: More of an asylum than a hostel. Was there 4 days didn’t see a cleaner once. The club next door is so loud you might as well just put your pillow there and get equally no sleep. Probably ok if you’re backpacking with literally no money or are an insomniac used to squalid hovel conditions. If you’re looking for somewhere to not catch cholera I’d look elsewhere. Bathrooms - disgusting Beds - noisy and not clean Value - ridiculously overpriced Location - good for CBD. Sydney is very walkable Staff - no idea, after check in I didn’t see any

Positive experience: Really nice place to stay and be in the middle of the city. I enjoyed my stay there especially because the staff was so lovely. Thanks to Josh that was so amazing !

Positive experience: Pretty nice hostel, especially for backpackers. You are in the main area of Sydney and very good connected to all important places like grocery stores and the public transport. They have a special connection to the nearby Scary Canary which is a pub/restaurant, they are doing some activities together, which is pretty good to get to know some people. All in all a good option to stay some days in Sydney.

Negative experience: The room was very dirty, dirty towels, bed sheets and on the wall/cealing. It did smell like mud in the hallways cause people put dirty work clothes there. It also felt like it was hard to breath while staying here. It's also a nightclub under the hotell that party's all night so it makes it hard to sleep.

Fantastic experience: Had a great stay so far at Nomads. I had a problem with one of my rooms in the second week, and Robbie from the front desk was willing to help me out and made sure there was no stress at all on my end. cheers to good service!

Positive experience: Service was amazing, love that they try really hard to get people to mingle together. Only wish that they give the bathrooms a clean.

Negative experience: No vent at the kitchen. ('Cooking fumes make breathing hard.') No noise proofing from the club music until 3am. No proper wifi signal at the dorm room. No value to stay here.

Negative experience: Quite possibly the worst backpackers in Sydney Australia, the management is terrible and the receptionists are extremely rude , the rooms were filthy and you will be kept awake by other guests drunk every night, for that money you could stay somewhere much nicer in a much better location.

Negative experience: i don’t know how the operators of this place can in good faith advertise rooms for $140 a night but have the rooms right above a nightclub that plays incredibly loud music until 3am. the bass from the music is so loud and so intense that it shakes the bed in my room. not only is this not advertised but it is also not reflected in the price as much as it should be. this place should not be a hostel because no one in these rooms can sleep in these conditions.

Negative experience: Absolutely too loud to sleep here. Club below the hostel, do not go if you want to sleep before 3am

Positive experience: The rooms were a bit noisy and the elevator wasn’t working, BUT the guys from reception were amazing, very happy to help. Big shout out for Harry, who help me to bring all the way down the stairs my huge luggage and even help me to call my Uber. THANK YOU AGAIN :)

Negative experience: Don’t go there if you wanna get some sleep. There’s a restaurant/bar that turns into a club from 9pm to 2 am into the same building. I was there from wednesday to saturday, same thing every night. I was in room 215, the bed was shaking due to the bass music downstairs. Maybe the owners should try a night in their own establishment, they’d understand. Mold on the ceiling of shower. Good location though and bed confortable!

Fantastic experience: Brit was super welcoming, love the hostel love the location, all the staff are super friendly the rooms are amazing and you get a free drink at the bar next store which turns into a club so don’t have to get an Uber. Big up Brit big up England it’s coming home. On top of that just went for the free bbq and drinks with Laura and George, both were super fun to hang around with and definitely recommend going along on one if you have the chance.

Fantastic experience: I had the most amazing stay here! More than just a hostel! As soon as you walk through the door you get greeted by a friendly smile. Even though we arrived on a rainy day there were nothing but sunshine and good vibes in the reception area. Josh managed to get us an early check in so we could grab a long overdue shower after our overnight flight. Absolute legend! Later Brittany took time out of her day to give us the best recommendations for good places to eat and where to grab some drinks for the night. 5 service. Big shoutout to James who helped us arrange this trip! The beds were super comfy and the room were spacious and clean! Will definitely be back!

She introduced me to some amazing local spots, from hidden beaches to authentic eateries serving up delicious meat pies and flat whites. Her knowledge and passion for the city were inspiring, and she even taught me some Aussie slang to impress the locals! Positive experience: I'm pretty happy with the experience! I have been in other youth hostel and where a bit crazy so I was afraid. But the kitchen is big, clean and have plenty of things to use. The rooms are comfortable and more or less quite, depending on the roomies of course. The toilets and the showers works well and clean, no problems with hot water, and I never found them packed. The wifi work acceptable and they organise activities for those who want party. Also there are laundry service available for 6$ and dryer for 5$. Maybe it's different if they are on peak season, but it's Sydney, so I guess it's always peak.

Fantastic experience: I was speaking to Scottie regarding my booking as I waited for my uber eats delivery. During this time, a rude and entitled young man by the name of Alistair first tried to lie about having a booking and then tried to demand a room for a past night, which was not possible. Scottie explained this, and in resentment, that person left a slanderous comment about a genuine and hard-working staff member. I believe the false and misleading comment should be removed in protection of his reputation and the excellent service at Nomads.

Negative experience: I wasn't allowed to book here as an Australian it seems as I was told my driver's license isn't 'acceptable' Horrible to be treated like that on my holiday. I am a tour guide and provide amazing travel experiences for people from all around the world and I get treated like an outcast in my own country, Thanks.

Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic stay at Nomads Hostel in Sydney! Great atmosphere, clean rooms, and well-equipped kitchen. Huge thanks to Tom for his exceptional hospitality!

Negative experience: This place would have to be the biggest dirtiest dive I have ever stayed in.And to top it off a night club above our room with thumping music all night. Absolutely no care factor from the people who run it which is run by young kids we where told we can move you to another room but it's not clean and you will have to make up your own bed.And to be then told nothing we can do about the noise no soap supplied no apologies nothing So 6 of us had no choice but to book at another hotel just to get some sleep and a clean room at 1 am in the Morning we packed up and went to the Mantra down the road When we where leaving all staff could say was bye and sorry about that we then tried to get a refund from the sight we booked on only to be told we need photos of proof of our complaints are you kidding me. Even the homeless people have a cleaner place to sleep outside Then you walk past the.night club door and it says silent disco um sorry you all have hearing impairments. Spoke to some people upon leaving and they stated the nightclub is on 7 nights a week Think twice about staying here go give a homeless person $300 a night and share their blanket and pillow I can guarantee you it will be alot cleaner and less noisier. Negative experience: Worst unpleasant hostel stay in my life ever. And I stayed in lot. This party place full of drunk kids ruined my stay in Sydney. I Wish I never booked a night there. They were two guys under drugs fighting in the room in front od my bed in the middle of the night. Its not their fault but then manager promised me they dont have acces to hotel and i Can sleep Well. But guess what? one of these dangerous guys appeared in the room again! They didnt protect us other guests in the room! I felt so unsafe even if si asked to be relocated beforehand they said no. They put me in another Room with 5 guys ( i was only female there) so I just left And the rooms are really messy. IT felt like squat or prison. Dont recommend i spend 100$ for one traumatic sleepless night ;(

Fantastic experience: i had an excellent stay at nomads sydney. the location is outstanding and you have everything you need right on your doorstep. the hostel staff is also very kind and always available if needed. a special thank you to robbie who made our stay as comfortable as possible, was always helpful and friendly.

Fantastic experience: I had a brilliant stay at Nomads Sydney, the staff were very accommodating and the facilities and location were great. The kitchen is very spacious making it easy to cook even at peak times and there is someone on reception 24/7 meaning we were looked after well. Would highly recommend staying here and will be returning! Special mention to Tom who was very friendly and willing to help make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Fantastic experience: This hostel is great if you’re looking for a social, vibrant accomodation in the middle of the CBD. Reception Staff is always friendly and helpful, especially Robbie made me feel very welcomed from the first second I got there. Tram and Woolworths are a 2 minute walk away. Rooms are huge and the curtains are great for good sleep.

Negative experience: Only upside to this hostel is the location. Kitchen is dirty and full of cockroaches. Haven’t slept good here once, was in a dorm initially with a group of 5 labourers who didn’t wake when their orchestra of alarms went off every morning. I’m not sure why the hostel can’t arrange for workers to be separated from backpackers. Was then moved to floor one where the nightclub underneath rocks the floor till 3am. Overall terrible experience, and would avoid at all costs.

Negative experience: Pros 1. Smack dab in the Cbd. 2. Plenty of food nearby. 3. Close to public transport.. Cons 1. Room. My room, a "deluxe" room had torn pillow, stained blanket, old hair, mold on the wall, and zero ventilation. Also the AC in the room was ineffective, possibly due for a service. The room always smelled musty, possibly a health hazard. 2. Bathrooms/showers. In overall disrepair. Seals in the shower floor are non-existent, which might explain the poor drainage and mold everywhere. 3. Booking system. Was given a différent room to what I booked. 4. Noise. If you are on level one, earplugs are mandatory. Heck there were earplugs supplied in my room. 5. Pointless and evidently expensive door security system. Should have spent the money on maintenance. Toilet still has to latched from the inside even though it gets opened by digital key from the outside. TLDR: Avoid if possible.

Positive experience: Great location in Sydney. The city is very walkable and there is a metro station nearby. We were there on a Friday night, with Taylor Swift in town. You might imagine that it was a little noisy late into the night. All in all, not a bad experience.

Fantastic experience: Was super excited to meet get the full hotel experience and meet new people and Nomads is the place! Met so many people on the Bondi to Coogee Walk with Lou; Josh from Reception was super helpful and they helped me feel so included! Cannot recommend enough staying here with the best location in Sydney!

Fantastic experience: Great stay, had the best day out on the bondi to coogee walk with Lou and Josh! Super friendly staff, would highly recommend to anyone coming to Sydney!

Positive experience: Great location, the nightclub downstairs is going off every night so don't stay here if you value your sleep. Hostel is dated, kitchen is large but hot being in the basement. Wouldn't stay here again unless you want to party every night

Negative experience: Wifi doesn't work. Air circulation works like it is a factory, very loud. Couldn't charge my phone as the power connections dont work. Generally, bad experience.

Negative experience: I booked a private room at the hostel and I instantly regretted when I made my way to our room . There is a pee like odour all through the building and it is worse once you get in the room . The bathroom had a whole that looked moldy with water dripping down

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for 4 nights and was very happy with my decision. The rooms are clean and have good bathroom facilities. The beds are spacy, comfy and have curtains for privacy which is so helpful. It was very sociable and the staff there are lovely, and helped me out whenever I needed it. 24 hour reception came in handy. They have different activities in the hostel/ bar everyday. We got a free bbq and the 2 girls that ran it were so helpful and fun we had a great time. The location is perfect reasonably central and near the opera house. The tram is also just right around the corner which is very useful.

Fantastic experience: Great location, central to everything . Stayed for 4 nights, had an amazing time with super helpful staff who made me feel very welcome and explained everything clearly . Took part in the bbq hosted by the hostel, where the staff took us to Shelly beach the 2 girls who took us were really nice and everyone had a great time. Would definitely recommend!!

Positive experience: I stayed here in December just for a night for a work trip. Wasn’t sure what to expect, being in my 30s…. But the double room was really lovely! Clean, good air con, tv, little work desk, nice ensuite, iron, hair dryer, etc. The hallways and lift are pretty dingy, and there was a bit of noise from other rooms, but otherwise it was fine. Food downstairs was nice. I left before the party started haha Exceeded my expectations. Even better than other expensive hotels I’ve done overnights in nearby. Will definitely stay here again.

Negative experience: If I’m paying to stay somewhere, I believe the least I deserve is comfort and respect. There was no air circulation in a lot of the rooms and staff kept lying about maintenance coming to fix the system.they acted like we were out of line for inquiring about the broken AC. My group was hardly able to sleep and even after showers we never felt clean because it was so stuffy and hot. This place is run down and does not even do basic upkeep. The entire building is absolutely FILTHY. Not to mention, the staff at scary canary were incredibly rude and aggressive. I’ve never been so happy to leave somewhere

Negative experience: Unfortunately terrible. Looks and feels dirty, smells bad, beds swallow you up and they only have room keys available via an app which they make you download but which doesn't work properly. Towels cost $5 to rent and look like something you'd dry your dog off with.

Negative experience: Extremely Disappointing Experience at Nomads Sydney My partner and I recently had a reservation with Nomads Sydney, and the experience was nothing short of disastrous. I feel compelled to share our story in the hope that others won't have to endure the same disappointment. We initially booked our stay through Wotif for the 15th to the 17th of December. Due to unforeseen personal circumstances, we had to reschedule for the following weekend. The rescheduling process was handled adequately, and we appreciated the understanding of the staff. However, upon our arrival on the 15th, things took a turn for the worse. We encountered issues with the online portal, and despite our excitement for our trip, the situation quickly became disheartening. The first staff member we spoke to at the Travel desk assisted us by allowing us to store our luggage until the 3:00 pm check-in, which we thought was a positive turn. Our optimism, unfortunately, did not last. When we returned at 2:30 pm, we faced an unexpected issue related to our identification. A second staff member, claiming to be a manager, informed us of a recent policy change that only allowed international guests to stay. This directly contradicted the information given to us earlier about our Australian driver's licenses being sufficient for identification. The way we were treated was not only unwelcoming but also disrespectful. We were denied accommodation, and the suggestion that we wait in the lobby was met with a cold refusal. It left us feeling stranded and unwelcome in a city we were eager to explore. Several aspects of this situation were deeply troubling. There was absolutely no prior notification of this policy change for booked customers. The lack of communication put us in an incredibly challenging position, and we were fortunate to find alternative accommodation. Being denied service due to the actions of unrelated individuals felt profoundly unjust and further soured our experience. Adding to our frustration was the revelation that this policy change was implemented due to an incident involving an Australian couple. While understanding the importance of maintaining a safe environment, penalizing all Australian guests based on the actions of a few is not only unfair but also counterproductive. To make matters worse, I thoroughly reviewed Nomads Sydney's website, including the About Us page, Terms and Conditions, and Policies, and found no mention of the new policy restricting stays to international guests only. The absence of this crucial information not only led to confusion but also compounded our disappointment. I am deeply disappointed with Nomads Sydney and sincerely hope that management addresses these issues to avoid subjecting future guests to such a bad experience. Our excitement for a memorable stay turned into profound disappointment, and I cannot recommend this establishment based on our regrettable encounter.

Fantastic experience: One of the most accommodating hostels I have stayed at on the east coast. Management were exceptional in particular, extremely friendly and always available to help if needed, a problem is never left unsolved when one occurs. Just a great experience overall, a special mention to Clare on the front desk who is extremely fun/friendly and has such a warm and welcoming persona.

Negative experience: We got a private room and the first thing we noticed was the smell. It smelled like a mix of mould and urine. That is until we realised the whole stretch of incredibly damp carpet next to the bed was the source of the smell. After a bit we noticed the air conditioner was leaking profusely, and obviously had been for a while due to the water marks on the wall and the artworks. The whole room felt damp and I’ve seen better mattresses dumped in car parks. There was rubbish in the hallways. Not much sound proofing in the walls either as we could hear the loud yelling and music from the nightclub the whole night. Our code also didn’t work at the front door after hours. Luckily, another visitor was in reception and kindly let us in. There are better places to stay with the same convenient location. We just thought we would try and stick with it as it was one night. The receptionist didn’t seem shocked when we told them about the room. Overall, one of the worst accomodation stays in Sydney- and we’ve stayed at a lot of different places!

Negative experience: I stayed here recently on a trip down the East coast and was very underwhelmed. I'll start with the good the location it's decent most things are walkable or you are near a tram to take you there. From a social side the social area is pretty decent table tennis, table football, a few sofas to sit on with some music playing. Unfortunately the rooms and other facilities massively let this place down. I stayed in a 4 person dorm room which was small and the air conditioning didn't work which essentially turned the room into a sauna especially on the top bunk. I don't even know what to say about the toilet/showers. They are seperate from the room and we're quite frankly disgusting! The showers to start with stunk of urine......I thought it was the urinals to start with but everytime I had a shower they smelt of urine. The toilet cubicles one was out of order (fair enough) leaving two however one afternoon someone was sick everywhere in one of the toilets on the floor toilet itself etc. I told reception of this around 1900 it was still there until around 0800/0900 the next morning even after it was cleaned there was still some on the floor. The sinks were also disgusting people seem to have a shave and not have the ability to use the sink itself or clean up after themselves and leave their shavings all around the sink area....I appreciate this isn't the hostels fault but again this wouldn't be cleaned until the next morning. The toilets and showers are in some serious need of some refurbishment or a cleaner at least a few times a day. I would also suggest if you're a light sleeper this isn't the hostel for you lots of noise etc I am a heavy sleeper so this didn't really effect me. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this hostel to anyone I guess it all depends what you're looking for and if you can overlook certain bits for the location and social side of things.

Negative experience: It’s filthy, old and not fit for purpose. Location great, staff all very friendly but they need to open their eyes and tidy up. Everything from the bag storage room to bathrooms and rooms are bad. About as close to a crack den functioning as a business can get. I get this is a backpackers but even they deserve standards. After weeks travelling around at campsites this was a last stop over before jumping on the plane home. There was more wildlife on show here than in the deepest bush areas. Showers on our floor all broken, not cleaned once in 18 hours we were checked in there, door locked but had about 5cm of movement and multiple bodge fixes where break ins (I assume) have been fixed up, badly. Buildings air duct system howled in our room all night, ear plugs were welcome. Mattress, genuinely saw a homeless guy outside sleeping on something that looked in better condition, hallways stunk, the only place that didn’t stink or had any kind of tidy Ed’s and order was reception. It’s laughably bad, even for a backpackers. Can’t really say anything bad about staff interactions, they’re all lovely but someone should be in charge of that s$$tshow.

Fantastic experience: Hostel is pretty good I love the people who work here! Robbie and Zac are the best! In my opinion they should get higher wage, I just booked 1 week more because of them. The only thing which is not that nice is the kitchen the rest is really good I also enjoy the lobby.

Negative experience: This is one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed in. First of all check-in is stated on every website and listing of this hostel as 2pm the terms and conditions of the hostel it's self states a 2pm check-in but on arrival told that it's a 3pm check-in. On arrivial told to sit and wait for checking after filling out details for goki a mobile key system. This is a terrible system for those with flat phone batteries. I had no details about the hostel told to me by the staff at the desks. The lift is super old and needs to be replaced and goes down when trying to go up. The toilets where dirty and smelly, and the showers where slimy. I had to have a shower on a different floor as the floor I was on had one shower that was unusable as the tap was broken so could not turn it on, a second shower had a broken shower curtain and the third was being used. The floor above the showers was not much better. The kitchen never has clean cutlery or crockery as no one ever cleans up after themselves. The rooms are not much better, the sheets in the first bed had stains all over it the the next had holes in it. The window in the rooms did not close properly, so a rather cold breeze could be felt coming through. I was cold at nught and they dont even give you a sheet just a quilt/dooner thats too small. The bunk beds are rickety, rusty and had heaps of chewing gum all over the frame. Half the Powerpoint's did not work in the room, carpet felt like it had not been vacumed in months and nothing had been dusted. The door to the room has large cracks at the bottom and side flooding the rooms with light when trying to sleep at night, not to mention the big vent allowing even more light in from the hall. A hostel trying to be green should have sensor lights on in the halls. Everytime someone was walking up the stairs late at night it was noisy with heaps of loud talking that could be heard in the room through 2 doors. The noise from the bar was loud enough to hear on the 3rd floor not super loud but enough to be a nuisance while sleeping. Not to mention the mini dance party happening in a room near by which resulted in under 4 hrs of on-off sleep. The kitchen being closed from 10pm and 6 am is a pain for those who work late or start early in the morning meaning I could not access the kitchen to heat up food. The kitchen facilities are discusting and all vending machines on site are all empty. This is definitely somewhere I recommend not to visit, nothing has changed from the old base hostel. PS all hostels in Sydney including hotels have 2 pm check-in time not 3pm.

Fantastic experience: The rooms are great and always clean. A big plus point is the lobby with table tennis and table football. You can find new contacts very quickly here. The service is also very good, especially when you go to Zach, the best receptionist in Australia.

Positive experience: The Nomads hostel is definitely recommended. I started here since I arrived in Australia and am now here for my sixth week because I keep extending my stay. Nomads has a nice lobby with a table tennis table and football table where you can meet a lot of people. Furthermore, the bathrooms and kitchens are great and you have everything you need here. The only disadvantage is that you can sometimes be bothered by the music from the club next to the hostel, but this varies per room. Also the price is very good for a hostel in such a good location. The staff very friendly and always ready to help you (especially josh). so if you are looking for a hostel, I would definitely choose Nomads. Greetings from The Netherlands

Negative experience: Trash. No air con. No windows to open and no filtration. Very muggy in nighttime. Reception not very helpful or accommodating. We’re not looking to just go to Scary Canary every night, have better recommendations ready to go for a night out, Kitchen is in basement, no utensils for food. Front door key doesn’t work on phone, had to wait for receptionist to open door late night after 3-4am. Wi-Fi is also weak. If you’re going to pay $300 for a week go somewhere else, you’ll get better bang for your buck

Positive experience: The reception was really friendly. The room was basic, the ac didn't work the fun had lots for dust on the fan. The shower was cold no HOT water. It was colder in the hall way then my room..I will not be back again..

Fantastic experience: Nomads Hostel is the most wonderful hostel I've ever been to. I really liked to group room where you can play bingpong and table football or just hang out with friends and meet new people every day. Especially the blond guy Josh is very friendly. He was always a big help if we had some questions about anything. Furthermore he is one of the funniest workers here - always up for some jokes and nice conversations. The hostel will miss him when he leaves!!! So if you look for a accommodation in Sydney I definitely recommend the Nomads hostel!!! You have to stay in this amazing hostel at least one time in your life - otherwise you will miss the best time of your life - I PROMISSE!!! Don't miss us austrian girls to much

Fantastic experience: Most amazing hostel I've ever been! I already liked it as soon as I entered the door as the staff in the reception was so funny and friendly! The lobby has a table football and ping pong table which is perfect for getting in touch with people from all over the world. I want to give a special thanks to Josh for always providing helpful services and making our stay the funniest ever! Also, I want to thank Callum who always made us feel welcome and never hesitated to try his best for us! So definitely make a stop here when coming to Sydney if you don't want to miss out on the best hostel with the best staff!

Negative experience: Staff are pleasant, location is good and they run events. Bathrooms weren't cleaned at all for the 6 days we were there. There was a sink leaking the whole time, which kept the bathroom floor soaked. There's nothing to hang up wet towels or anything in the rooms, you'd think a few command hooks wouldn't break the bank. It was made out we would have a double bed and ensuite and when we arrived they changed everything, giving us a room with double bed but no ensuite and ended up charging us more. The staff kept saying it was a "tiny bit extra" to pay but was like 100$. I wouldn't call that tiny, but if they do feel that way then maybe they could pay the difference for their mistake instead of us? Goki app is really really annoying

Positive experience: Stayed here for around a week. This hostel has the potential to be amazing but only if you like to party. Which most backpackers do. Having Scary Canary right next door is a blessing and a nightmare. Great discounts on food and drink plus convenient but the downside is if you want to sleep before 2/3am on a party night then good look. Music so loud it vibrated the plugs out of the sockets in the bed.

Negative experience: worst place I've ever stayed in. $208 for one night. was told could check in at 12, then a few hours later, and couldn't get in til after 5pm. unclean, noisy, pretty certain we had previous visitors bed sheets on, dirty with hair in the bed. more like a party hotel where people leave rubbish and vomit wherever. seems like a cash cow. positive, staff were very friendly. do not recommend at all. Sleeping on the street would be quieter.

Negative experience: Only best thing is location and spacious 10 bed room. Kitchen needs more eyes from management. No cup, few utensils for 200 guests. Activities that they announce on the app is didn't happened ever! No walking tour, no movie nights and bbq at the bar! Just for advertisement. Some stuffs are more annoyed to work in there especially german one! Should be sacked!
