Fantastic experience: helpful when having trouble booking online, good price and value for money

Negative experience: We booked a holiday to Vietnam, AVG tours held us under duress we have a video of the tour guide refusing to take us out of a natural disaster area unless we signed an agreement in the bus in Hoi An area where we were staying in Hue, and flooded in. We needed to contact the Australian Embassy to put pressure on AVG to get us out of a natural disaster area. The communication was terrible, they changed the last part of the trip of our booking to a five star resort in Phu Quoc island where the facilities are falling apart and do not work! We have asked for a refund for the holiday and we I’ll be making a claim. Do not book with AVG, the lack of communication and the fact that the company held us under duress unless we all signed a waiver on the bus before taking us to the airport was disgraceful.

Negative experience: Over the last dozen years, my wife and I have travelled with many different travel companies on organised tours around the world. Our most recent experience with AVG Travels was definitely the worst, and I am only bothering to write this review to warn others to think very carefully before using this company. Despite paying for our trip five months in advance (as AVG required), we did not receive our final itinerary until three days before flying out from Australia to Europe. Indeed, until one week before departure, we did not know if our tour was even proceeding. By that late stage, it was impossible to book tickets (with any certainty) for many of the popular half-day tours available in the 'spare time' we had in our very loose itinerary. I also had to call and email AVG many times in our final days before departure to secure correct tickets or vouchers for travel. And, in a concerning breach of privacy, our personal details were shared with others on the same tour without our consent. (As it turned out, the others in our group had suffered similar problems dealing with AVG.) AVG's lack of honest and forthright communication was astounding, frustrating and very unprofessional. We will certainly never travel with this 'mob' again.

He took care of us wonderfully and showed us the most beautiful parts of Sri Lanka. He was very attentive to our needs and even went and got medicine for us. Fantastic experience: Our China itinerary with AVG Travels Australia felt balanced and smart, airport meet and greet was smooth, hotel check ins were ready on arrival, coaches were comfortable with clear daily briefings, and our city guides shared history, food tips and practical advice that helped us avoid tourist traps without feeling micromanaged.

Fantastic experience: We booked the 14 day Serengeti and Masai Mara Explorer with AVG Travels Australia and were impressed from day one, pre trip questions were answered quickly by the booking team, the Kenyan and Tanzanian guides kept the days efficient, vehicles had chilled water and snacks, and the Serena Hotels each offered stunning outlooks that made early wake ups easy to love.

Positive experience: Recently went to Vietnam/Cambodia, tour guides were informative and spoke good English. Took up the opportunity to join most of the optional tours. Great bunch of people on the tour...but you get that one that perhaps is on the wrong tour! It would have been helpful to have received flight details and final itinerary more than 2 weeks out before leaving. Yes I would go on another AVG Tour.

Positive experience: AVG Travels delivered the goods yet again with my Tour of Vietnam/Cambodia. Fantastic itinery with great knowledgeable guides with charisma and skills to make changes to better our experiences. My second tour with them and I would without hesitation recommend booking with AVG to all.

Positive experience: This tour offered friendly guides, comfortable accommodation, great food, fearless drivers and many memorable highlights of this colourful, fascinating country. Some guides were more confident than others but all showed strong care, fairness and helpfulness. The overnight cruise on Halong Bay was so beautiful. Many rooms offered a huge window and a balcony so you could endlessly enjoy the extraordinary views. Hoi An Blue Sky Hotel offered lovely rooms with big baths. I brought Epsom salts to enjoy a relaxing recovery after touring the town, Ba Na Hills and My Son Sanctuary. Ho Chi Minh city was bustling and vibrant. From there we ventured out to the Mekong and Thanh Ha Pottery tour. Your experience will be impacted by the type of people who are in your group. We had a fun, friendly and most times respectful collection of folks which adds a sense of security and camaraderie. One traveller had her vape confiscated early so maybe don't bring one. The departure time for the Cu Chi Tunnel (final) tour is early. If you've had the lovely Saigon River and dinner cruise the night before you may like to extend your already generous hotel checkout time to 4 or 5pm so you can shower and pack (after crawling through tunnels) before the drive to airport for flight home. Many chose not to do the tour but to relax at the hotel which came with a noon checkout but it was a long afternoon wait til 5.30pm drive to the airport. The Vietnamese people seem kind, friendly and very family/community oriented. It was a great pleasure to visit. Thank you AVG Tours

Fantastic experience: Great trip to Sri Lanka. Small Group was lovely. Good value for price. A little surprised no welcome or farewell dinner was included. Hotels were good in great locations. Guide Raj was excellent as was his assistant and driver. A few small mix ups with itinerary.. prob a lack of communication between office and guides who have the local knowledge. All locations visited were excellent.

Fantastic experience: Those safari days can be long, yet with AVG Travels Australia we always had water within reach, seats were comfortable, and the wildlife moments came one after another, we felt secure, well supplied and genuinely cared for, a proper bucket list trip delivered.

Fantastic experience: I came home with a different view of China, people were welcoming and the sites layered with meaning, David deserves special mention, he kept the group organized, listened when people needed a slower pace, and used storytelling to bring the history alive.

Fantastic experience: We are on our way home from 10 days in China. Our local guides were Lily and LiLy which made it easy to remember! Both guides were amazing, kind, patient and knowledgeable! We loved them both and the drivers were fantastic. We really are Lily's family now. It is a very tight schedule with a lot to cram into such a short time. Bring your comfortable walking shoes and expandable pants to enjoy lots of good food. Our hotels were always comfortable and nothing seemed too much trouble. I would definitely use AVG again and if you are in Beijing or Shanghai cross your fingers to get the two Lilys.

Positive experience: Purchasing the trip was easy. Although you took half a day to tell me that there were no places in my original choice. Take it off your website if there are no places on that date. That was disappointing. As for the trip? I haven't gone yet. I'm hoping i get a lot of support in connecting with the rest of my trip in India, as I'm travelling on my own for the first time. I hope I can do other trips next year.

Fantastic experience: We had never done a group tour before Vietnam, AVG answered every question quickly before we left, flights and transfers lined up without drama, and the 14 day plan mixed headline attractions with pockets of downtime so we could linger in cafes or do a little shopping.

Fantastic experience: From Beijing to Wuxi, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai, Lily and then David kept us learning and laughing, hotels were modern and spotless with breakfast stations for Western and local tastes, and transport days were plotted to avoid the worst traffic, which gave us more time in the sights.

Fantastic experience: I picked the 10 Day Incredible China tour and lucked out with David as our guide for the latter half, he prepared rain gear on drizzly mornings, carried extra snacks for the bus, and checked room arrangements so older travelers would be near elevators, that level of care changed a good trip into a great one.

Fantastic experience: Recently we went on a 10 day tour through Vietnam with AVG and I must admit it was great! From Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, everything was done on time and with great effort to ensure we all had a great time. The tour guide Thu (pronounced two) in Hanoi was exceptional. Her English was fantastic and she made sure we all enjoyed our time. The only issue we had was our tour guide in Ho Chi Minh who did speak English but didn't even introduce himself to our group even after I had asked him to. He also wasn't good at knowing if someone was missing from our group or not. Food was great as well as all the history and attractions

Fantastic experience: This tour was value for money. We saw a mix of historical and cultural activities as well as experiencing the fabulous and varied scenery of Sri Lanka. Rajiv was a knowledgeable tour leader and Indiga an excellent driver. The hotels were very good and the food fabulous.

Fantastic experience: Hoi An was a standout, our leader Hoang walked us through food markets, explained the history behind the old town streets and bridges, and steered us toward local dishes that became new favorites, it felt like time with a friend who genuinely loves the place.

Positive experience: The tour itself was great, we saw everything that we had always dreamed off, however the Great Wall - wasn’t enough time. The down sides of the tour were…. Hotels too far away from the places of interest. Not much food options around the hotels, one of them actually felt like we were in the industrial area! Do NOT prepay the optional tours, as if you get sick and can’t make it / they are non refundable! There was a little discrepancy about optional tours … its states if you go one then transport is included , however some people were left high and dry cause they didn’t do the two on the same day and were told to make their own way back (bit hard for some of the older folk). Some of the optional dinners and boat ride were so far over priced. And some of the tour places were hard at making you buy their goods (Chinese medicine place - even to the point at yelling at some one telling them they don’t care for their health, all because they didn’t buy their product) It was good to see the sights of China. Not sure if I’d do a tour again though, felt like I was on the bus more than on China soil!

Fantastic experience: I booked a 12 day China trip and dealt with Fabio from the start, he was patient as I compared dates and room types, followed up without pressure, and had everything lined up, I fell ill just before departure and the support remained excellent, pricing was competitive and I plan to rebook.

Fantastic experience: Our Taiwan loop was beautifully arranged, the accommodations were consistently comfortable, and the Fleur de Chine Hotel was the star, our guide kept dietary needs in mind and adjusted meal stops as needed, the group clicked well, which says a lot about the way the itinerary was built.

Fantastic experience: We just completed 16 day China Yangzee River Cruise 12 days around China with Lilly our guide excellent around Beijing then David around Shanghai onto Xian with Leo all great guides looking after us so well. Our accomodation was excellent we traveled Buses, bullet trains and planes all organized well. Would recommend AVG travel and will use them again.

Fantastic experience: Two Lily's looked after us on our China circuit, one in Beijing and one in Shanghai, both calm, organized and deeply knowledgeable, they handled crowd logistics smoothly, answered questions about language and customs, and somehow kept the whole group smiling in busy spots, AVG Travels Australia made the handoff between cities seamless.

Positive experience: All seems fine so far....we have some friends who did this tour and had a really good time..... A little worried about all the negative feedback for this company on social media, hopefully my dad and I will have a really good time just like our friends did....

Fantastic experience: We did have a small billing hiccup at the start, one cheerful call with Jana sorted it quickly and with a laugh, now I am counting down ten weeks to a Silk Road route in northwestern China, I compared a few similar itineraries and AVG’s price came in lower, so the value has me extra excited.

Fantastic experience: Did the 14 days Vietnam tour through AVG and the experience was just wonderful. Our tour guides (Bang Bang, Hoang & Bean) at each stage were prompt, courteous and knowledgeable and made our tour easy and fun. The highlight of this trip was the overnight cruise in Ha Long Bay. I was so surprised and impressed with the service, the additional activities and specially with the amount and quality of the food. The 4 star hotels used throughout the trip also impressed me with their quality. I would totally use AVG again and would recommend to anyone else.

Fantastic experience: Credit where it is due, the second leg of our China journey with David felt like being looked after by a friend, he passed around fruit and snacks on longer drives, checked in about mobility needs, and made sure everyone knew the plan for evening meals, hotels hit the five star mark and breakfasts kept us going until late afternoon.

Negative experience: My daughter and I joined the 10-day China tour and were looking forward to it, but unfortunately, the Beijing portion of the trip was very disappointing and did not match what AVG had promised. The Beijing tour experience was frustrating, misleading, and not up to the standard I expected when booking with AVG. The actual arrangements were so different from what was stated in the itinerary, and why customers were forced or pressured into optional tours at inflated prices. The hotels were great but it was too far away from the city. The service and treatment we received were far below expectations.

Fantastic experience: My Sri Lanka tour with AVG was friendly and structured, morning sightseeing with clear commentary, afternoons that sometimes let me explore or simply relax by the pool, and the scheduling felt thoughtful, I was traveling on my own and felt completely secure from airport pickup to the last drop off.

Fantastic experience: Everything was organised well, there was a few things that honestly I think could be changed slightly for the better. On our itinerary it says optional tours but they were far from optional. You were made to feel like you HAD to go on one of them and some people like ourselves weren't prepared for the extra charge. Other than that everytime else was great. Our guides Lily, Lulu and Amber were great and tried very hard to explain things in English. We were lucky to only have one day of rain. We look forward to doing another guided tour one day.

Fantastic experience: Our group’s Incredible China itinerary flew by, May and David paced the days with smart breaks, pointed out details we would have missed on our own, and fielded a constant stream of questions with patience, we covered big landmarks and quiet corners, and the balance of group time and free time was just right.

Fantastic experience: Huge thanks to AVG Travels Australia for a well priced China holiday, the hotels were chosen for convenience and quality, transfers ran to the minute, and our guides Fred and Lulu shared stories about food, history and local life that turned each stop into something meaningful, my wife and I never felt rushed and we always knew what came next.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars, I would. We booked and paid in full for a 10-day China tour with AVG Travels in July 2024, scheduled for September 2025. Just two months before departure, they abruptly cancelled it, blaming vague “supplier issues.” They offered two poor options: reschedule (which we couldn’t do), or upgrade to a 12-day tour for $1,600 extra per person, a total of $6,400 more for our family of four for an extra 2 days! After multiple emails, they finally agreed to refund us, but then delayed the refund for over a month with no clear timeline. Only after we threatened to report them to the ACCC did they process it. Although Ms. Scarlet did eventually help us secure the refund, the entire process was draining, stressful, and exhausting, all due to their lack of transparency. No one should have to chase their own money after a cancellation that wasn’t their fault. How many others are still waiting or left in limbo? To make things worse, they continue to advertise heavily on social media, ignoring ongoing issues. Just check Trustpilot, you’ll find tons of similar complaints from other frustrated customers. This isn’t an isolated case. Avoid this company at all costs!

Positive experience: I went on the 16 day trip to Vietnam with my brother starting on 31 July 2025. The website said 6-24 people on it but we were surprisingly the only people booked. There was another couple with us for most of the trip. This was good as we had easy access to the guide but I would have preferred more people. The trip was a bit chaotic in Hanoi and we did not see the city at its best. I had been there before and it was my favourite place. Not this time - it’s best to stay in the old city and also our bags had been left in Sydney. It was a rush to Halong Bay and our late arrival to Hanoi (3am!) meant we were very tired. The trip back from Halong bay was very long and often boring. We got the night train to Hue and the 4 of us agreed it was tedious, very long ( 14 hours) and uncomfortable. I would happily pay the extra for a flight. Hue and Hoi A were good but we organised our own trip to Bana Hills which was half the price of the AVG trip. Saigon was my favourite place- loved the trip to Cu Chi tunnels and the Mekong delta and all the History in the city and the great markets! Pho Quoc island was lovely - great hotel but the weather was not so kind and it rained the last two days. The flights were stressful - every one of them was late and nearly missed our connection home. The organization was pretty good and the guides were knowledgeable and great for the most part. The cost was very reasonable but the extras (charged in Australian dollars) were expensive for a New Zealander.

Fantastic experience: The booking process was a breeze - efficient and straightforward. The tour packages are genuine deals, very wallet-friendly. Loved the pay in instalments.

Positive experience: We enjoyed our 14 day with Nha Trang Beach Break to Vietnam. The five internal flights meant that a lot of time was spent going to the airport, and arriving at next destination to be transferred to our hotel. When we arrived in Ho Chi Minh we were then taken on a city orientation tour before being taken to the hotel about 8pm.We started our day at 7.30am so we were exhausted. So there was a lot of time spent on buses and planes and waiting at the airport with early starts. The first tour guide was excellent, next 2 ok. As Australians we prefer to tip for good service not have it taken off us at a prearranged amount on day 2! Also when you’re flying from à regional area there should be a choice to choose an airport that’s not a capital city eg Gold Coast instead of Brisbane for us. Gold Coast was not in the options when we booked.

Positive experience: (edited) I went on a solo tour to Sri Lanka through AVG and overall, I had a good experience. The Sri Lankan tour guide was friendly and satisfactory and while some parts of the tour did not go according to the itinerary, I enjoyed my holiday. I faced some issues with poor and unhelpful customer service since getting back, particularly from Hans (booking manager). That said, after a few weeks of no avail someone else from the team gave me a call and apologised -which I appreciate.

Fantastic experience: A great visit to Hoi A with such an experienced tour guide Hoang. We saw some great sights and were amazed by the food and local culture. Hoang gave us great insights into the history.

Fantastic experience: Hoi An was a ripping location to visit. Our tour leader Hoang from AVG was awesome. We had several medical incidents in the one day and Hoang went well beyond the call of duty to support the unfortunate travellers. At one stage he raced into town in the evening during what should have been his personal time to support someone who had become hospitalised. Great work. Big thumbs up.

Negative experience: I cancelled my holiday but haven't heard anything further about the deposit I paid when it will be returned to me. Very quick to take money but not so quick to return it

Fantastic experience: I wanted to send a quick thank you for the wonderful tour of Taiwan. It was incredibly well-organised, and I truly appreciated the attention to detail in every aspect. Our tour guide was amazing—he really catered to all our needs and made the experience so much fun. The accommodation throughout the trip was excellent, especially the Fleur de Chine Hotel, which was truly spectacular. The tour was genuinely great value for money, and having such a fantastic group of people made it an even more enjoyable and memorable experience.

Fantastic experience: OK....so we got off to a bumpy start with a small billing issue, but I called Jana & we had a good yack on the phone & everything got resolved with a few laughs as well! I cannot tell you how excited I am to be going down the Silk Road in northwestern China in only 10 weeks from now. And I have to say the AVG tour was MUCH cheaper than their competitors with a similar itinerary! Can't wait! :-)

Negative experience: Never use this company. The tours are not guaranteed and there is no such disclosure on their website or the terms & conditions! My trip with my daughter in September is not proceeding and barely 6 weeks left. False & misleading representations. Dont use this company

Negative experience: Vietjet airline wouldn't allow me into plane I was booked on a 10 day of Vietnam paid trip. I called they were no help. They had time to cancel the 2 internal flights and return to Australia flights which I should receive a full refund. Instead avg offered me $500 credit with them.i wasn't given a chance to receive a full refund to original payment method. It's very hard to receive the correct information. All I know is that I'm entitled to a full refund on those flights. Please address this asap. Dept of fair trading will be advising me about my rights Since this .post went up AVG travel have told me they will Not book any trips for me until I take the review down. I told them that I wasn't taking the review down especially when they would not let me use $500 credit on my file. That doesn't cover the cost of travelling to Sydney , accommodation and back home because of failure to leave Australia! Sales12 yesterday was literally yelling at me telling me that I am not wanted by the company because of the review. After the unprofessional behaviour and yelling besides the 70 emails trying to get any form.of communication I WILL NEVER TRAVEL WITH AVG TRAVEL & VIETJET AIRLINES. Keep away from this horrible company that makes up their own rules and let's customers disadvantaged.

Negative experience: Very disappointed. In the Vietnam and sapa trip i did was so cheap. Nothing included. I had to book my own tours.And if you were to book theough AVG they would want to charge you 3x more. On top of that they want $10 a day per person as tips. For what? You just picked us up from airport and dropped us hotel. Also when you try to contact Avg they stay a few days before they response. Never answer their phones. Everyone on tour from Australia was so upset. I will nwver book my travels with AVG ever again. Rip off and unprofessional . Inhave travelled with many other tour conpanies and get more included, You see so many things. Happy to pay more, if i see more of places

Fantastic experience: Didn't know what to expect as this was our first trip to Vietnam, our first time using a travel company and our first group tour. AVG were easy to deal with and responsive to all my queries prior to our trip. The trip itself was brilliant. All went to plan, the local travel guides engaged by AVG were helpful, humorous and so knowledgeable about the area we were in and the history of the area and the broader country. We saw so much in our 14 day tour but still had sufficient downtime to do our own thing.

Fantastic experience: We are two couples who traveled with AVG on their 14 day Serengeti and Masai Mara Explorer tour in June. We dealt with Hans and Scarlett who were both very helpful and pro active with our queries and questions. We were also very well looked after by our Kenyan and Tanzanian guides Amos and Erasto. All of the accommodation was outstanding with amazing views, we only wished we had more time to enjoy all the facilities. The food provided was absolutely delicious with plenty of choices, hunger was never a problem. The Serena hotels were all slightly different but equally as beautiful as the last. Each guide provided plenty of snacks and water in the vehicles, unless you have dietary needs you really don't need to bring any food from home. This is a full on tour with only about 2 afternoons for relaxing. We were happy with that as we really wanted to see as much wildlife and culture possible. It is a taxing trip on the body with long days in the safari jeep, but once you start seeing the animals in the wild, you are just in awe and any aches soon disappear. We couldn't have chosen a better company to deal with and we had a trip of a lifetime. If this is something you have been thinking about doing, don't hesitate. We felt extremely safe and were well looked after by everyone we came across. The African people are so friendly and always ready with a smile and offering of help. Bucket list ticked. Positive experience: It was worth the tour, with what you pay.

Negative experience: Zero star. Avoid like the plague. Cancel days prior to trip as they book last minute and it was too expensive for them! No refunds other than the 7 day cooling off period. Do not book here.

Fantastic experience: My consultant was Fabio. He was helpful, polite and knowledgeable. Most importantly he followed through. I would be happy to deal with him again. Further to this review I have been dealing with Scarlett. She has been amazing and so easy to deal with. I travel a lot and As a rule I do my own travel arrangements as I’ve found companies to be not personal, difficult to contact and don’t listen. This has not been the case AVG. Scarlett has been attentive and answered all my questions. Cannot recommend Scarlett highly enough. I do not travel until later in the year but feel confident I am covered and will be looked after by AVG. I will report back post trip.

Negative experience: 12 day Terracota Warrior Tour Expect limited communication after you paid. We received our itinerary a week before departure **Accommodation:** Although the hotels were rated 4 stars and above, they were located well outside city centers—typically at least an hour’s drive—and in areas with little to no nearby attractions. This meant that if you opted out of the additional optional tours, you were essentially confined to the hotel with limited alternatives. **Tour Pacing & Priorities:** Daily departures were relatively late, often after 8 or 9 a.m., followed by lengthy bus rides (1–2 hours) to each site. This significantly limited the time available to explore actual tourist attractions, while more time was spent at commercial stops like silk factories and other government  outlets. **Optional Tours & Access Issues:** In the early part of the trip, those who chose not to participate in optional tours had to wait on the bus due to the remote locations. Later, when optional activities were located near interesting areas like markets, guests who didn’t pay for the optional tour were not permitted to accompany the group—even if traveling to the same location. **Review Incentives:** We were told that guests who posted a five-star review with a photo of the tour guide would receive a $50 discount on a future booking. This raises questions about the authenticity of some online reviews. **Optional Shows & Ticketing:** Some of our optional performances were booked last-minute upon arrival. Despite paying for premium seats, we were sometimes given lower-tier seating. While the agency claimed their prices were cheaper, we found online booking alternatives that were comparable or more transparent—suggesting the markup is more about convenience than value. **Attraction Access & Hidden Fees:** One notable example: the itinerary included a visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda, We were told upon arrival that entry required us to book an optional  tour. Those who declined could only view it from a distance. **Extras:** There were a few  incidental charges not clearly stated upfront. Guests were required to rent headsets at some attractions due to local noise restrictions. Despite the itinerary stating “all transport included,” we had to pay extra for shuttle buggies at major sites like lakes and the Terracotta Warriors. Not paying meant missing out on the visit with the group

Negative experience: DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY I was part of a cancelled trip to Vietnam. No refund as yet, extremely tough to deal with. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Negative experience: Awful experience. I've had my entire holiday cancelled less than 1 week prior to it starting with no reason why. It then took me over 2 months with countless emails and phone calls not being responded to. I ended up having to involve third parties just to get a refund. Worst experience ever. Please look elsewhere for a travel company!

Negative experience: Horrible customer service. I had my entire package cancelled without any plausible explanation only 5 days before the start of my trip. No phone calls or emails were answered for days. We had to fight for a refund and get our money back. Never travel with them.

Fantastic experience: David answered all my questions and got the booking done all in the one call, great service.
