Nomads Magnetic Island (Base)

Positive experience: A fairly good stay that was affected by weather. It's obviously not the fault of the hostel for bad weather but it did have an impact on our stay. A storm caused the WiFi to be down for half of our booking. This caused issues as the card machines at the bar no longer worked and became cash only. There is an ATM on site, however. The power also went out during one night which caused the air-con to die. During the hot season with 6 people in a hut it became very warm inside. The hostel itself is nice, the bar area is good and the food served was tasty and well plated. It is a little expensive but I suppose you're paying for the convenience of not having to go into town and the island tax. Upon booking it advertised one 'free' dinner and one 'free' breakfast, but it turned out this was a $15 voucher to go towards dinner and $12 for breakfast. There's only one main item on the dinner menu for $15, a cheeseburger. No fries. Similar story for breakfast. There are plenty of events each night for people to get involved with. Karaoke had some interesting attempts. The pool was a great addition. The location is also amazing, right next to the ocean and beach. There's a bus stop opposite the hostel for getting into town/back to the ferry terminal. Showers and toilets were fairly good, although the locks on a few of the doors were broken. The laundry facilities were good. We didn't use the kitchen for cooking but it did seem to be in quite bad condition.

Negative experience: The bathroom was not clean at all. One area for the whole campsite, which meant 10min walk in the middle of the night. Laundry and dryer didn’t work properly and I need to deal with it by myself to get a refund.

Positive experience: Rooms very small. Bathrooms were horrendously dirty.

Positive experience: On the first look the hostel looks really nice, the view is amazing and it feels very luxurious to be right next to the ocean. However my experience wasn’t the best. I was unlucky with my room and was not in one of the cute houses, the hostel can’t do anything about that of course. I was in one of the rooms closest to the bar area (114). On Saturday there was a DJ and the music was so loud, my earplugs didn’t help at all. The bed was not comfortable, I felt the spirals from the mattress in my back. The AC was incredibly cold, no matter what setting it was on. I think it was way too strong for the small room. I got an extra blanket, but that wasn’t enough. There were no lockers on the whole facility to put your valuables away. I could give them to reception though to keep them in the office, but that’s not ideal of course. The WiFi was terrible and didn’t work in my room or nearly anywhere else except for the bar area.

Negative experience: Firsts, the rooms. Beds not comfy or safe if you're top bunk. Didn't have fresh bedding on my bed. I had to ask for some. Floors slippery when wet. Dust everywhere with lizards watching us sleep. Bathroom, very dirty and no hot water for showers. Some staff were willing to help, others were a bit blunt. No WiFi in any rooms which meant you had to sit in the loud bar area. Location obviously very pretty if you're a outdoorsy person.

Fantastic experience: This was truely the most amazing hostel I have ever stayed in!! The staff members made the time unforgettable, especially Jj. The vibe is unmatched and everyone was super happy! Karaoke night was fun and the food delicious. Everything very clean. Jj also surprised me with a private room upgrade for my birthday!!

Fantastic experience: A unique place on earth, many viewpoints for sunrise and sunset, very friendly staff, delicious food and Island Burgers, Forts walks track to koalas and their babies in wildlife. Rock wallabies.

Positive experience: Beautiful place, bus stops that go to the ferry terminal. Unfortunately there were holes in the windows so anything could have come in… but other than that it was a good experience

Positive experience: Pros: Good location with awesome views & the rooms are cool with comfortable beds. Evening entertainment is fun! Cons: the kitchen is absolutely awful, it is way too small for the amount of people using it & therefore it’s busy and dirty. The toilets and showers are also a bit gross - doubt they hardly ever get cleaned! The WiFi only works around the bar area & the staff didn’t seem overly happy about working there!!

Negative experience: Rooms were full of ants and the showers/toilets were poor, many without locks

Positive experience: Basic accomodation but definitely stunning location right on the beach. Rooms were clean, however a few issues made my stay a little inconvenient: - showers weren’t warm once during my stay - wifi is bad - kitchen is way too small and inconvenientely set up for amount of people - beds are very squeaky

Positive experience: Stunning location and lots to offer at the hostel itself. Sadly the wifi only works at reception. Kitchen is super cramped at dinner time but my burger at the restaurant took an hour and a half to come out so I’d say best option is to bring something microwaveable or doesn’t need a stove. Bus stop is right next door and sometimes they’ll run buses just for nomads from the ferry which is nice. Loved the karaoke night but trivia night needed some more activities as my group got bored really quick

Fantastic experience: I didn’t stay here but iust dropped by for a morning beverage during my eBike tour. Nao the barista made a very yummy iced coffee which I drank too fast to photograph. Good vibes here definitely and great location

Negative experience: I recently stayed at Nomads Hostel and had a pretty mixed experience. The location is great, and the facilities look nice, but the rooms are outdated with old beds, and there's no WiFi in the rooms. The shared showers and toilets could have been cleaner, too. When we arrived, there was a three-day drum and bass festival happening that we weren’t told about. The loud music made it hard to relax, and some guests were using drugs by the pool, which was uncomfortable. Our complimentary drink vouchers were denied at first, and it took a lot of back-and-forth with the staff to finally use them at checkout. As well as them deciding they were no longer doing happy hour due, despite us being regular guests and not part of the festival. Sadly, the staff were pretty unhelpful and rude throughout.

Fantastic experience: We just finished our Hawkeye Lookout hike and then stopped for an afternoon drink at Nomads! This is a nice place on the beach !

Negative experience: The hostel was decent at first until when i woke up and there was loads of ants in my bed, i was staying in a 6 bed hostel room on the top bunk, the toilets were fine, the kitchen was dirty. There was also no one at reception when i was checking out so couldnt tell them about the issue

Positive experience: Good enough for low budget Pro : The hostel is 30min walk away from the ferry if you miss the bus which is not too bad. The bus stop is right in front of the hostel. You have an access to the beach straight inside. The sunrise from here is stunning. All the outside area is good looking, there’s a pool, some hammocks, the bungalows are pretty nice and far enough of the bar so you don’t hear the music but only the sound of the waves, depending on which area you’re staying I guess but it was perfect for me. The mattress is very comfy, plus they give a real duvet, not a flat sheet, I really appreciate this. The bathroom is big, you never have to wait to go neither in the toilet or in the shower. The kitchen contains all the equipment needed, pan, pot, cutlery etc. Cons : First of all the key situation is a nightmare. Apparently, because of duplicating they keys too much they aren’t working well enough anymore. I literally spend 20min trying to open the door for the first time and killed my hands while pushing so hard, before it finally opened. This happened several time before we all decided to just never lock the door, knowing that there are no lockers to secure your belongings. Honestly being stuck outside of your room because of this, is a big problem, waste of time and energy. Moreover, they ask 50$ if you loose this fxcking key that isn’t even working, while it’s around 10/20$ in every other hostel. JUST CHANGE THESE LOCKS ! Everything is actually pretty expensive, the menu, the rentals (15$ the towel, 25$ the snorkel mask that you need to bring back before 5pm which is way too early if you really want to go snorkelling around). There is no individual lights in the bed and absolutely nothing/nowhere to store your stuff in the room. It just stay on the floor and get messy. The shower head hangs from the ceiling and not from the wall, girlies if you didn’t wanted to get your hair wet, it’s a no-go. Like in the room there is nowhere to put your stuff in the shower. The kitchen is waaay too small for the amount of guests staying there. There is only 3/4 tables outside where you can eat but it’s also the smoking area. Plus one of the bench is broken so that don’t let a lot more space to sit and eat. I found the staff pretty cold, with the exception of one older gentleman, probably a manager. The events they promote on site and by email aren’t reliable. They promoted a pool party in the afternoon when I was here, that never occurred. I found it hard to casually socialise with people, there is no other activities proposed than drinking games by nights. The wifi was very bad. Basically if you’re young, wild and probably from the UK you will enjoy your stay here. If you are hesitating between this hostel or the Selina (that will change name very soon), I highly recommend the second option. I’ve been there to have a coffee while I was around and really regret that I didn’t booked there. It’s way more warmer, full of nature, they are feeding birds every day, organise activities as yoga, the team is lovely. The kitchen is bigger and more practical to use, the bathroom is a bit smaller but also way more comfortable, with products dispensers for free, lot more space to chill and socialise. Spending 1 hour there and I talked with more people than 3 days in nomads. Anyway, for a two nights stay and for the price I paid it was good enough. Except for the key I had everything I needed. I didn’t spend this much time inside the hostel anyway as the island is absolutely amazing to visit. I wouldn’t stay longer in this hostel though.

Negative experience: They said they would do a DJ night, but you'd be better off with a jukebox, the egotistical 'DJ' will only play what they seem good, totally neglects all audience request. Doesn't help they have taste 10 years outta date. Next time I'll bring noise cancelling headphones and pick my own music!

Fantastic experience: Best hostel in Magnetic Island! It’s literally on the beach. It’s clean and the food is good. I recommend!

Fantastic experience: This place is a slice of paradise in the middle of paradise, and probably the best hostel I’ve seen! The layout is perfect with the bulk of the accommodation away from the noise of the epic partying at the Island Bar - All right on the ocean front! The kitchen and laundry is well laid out and with everything you need for creating a feast. They also have delicious burgers and breakfast available all day. From hammocks to soak up the winter sun to the pool and spacious common areas. You will never want to leave! As an owner of a couple of backpacker hostels in NZ, I’m not only in awe but also a little jealous this place is so epic, made even more memorable by the friendly and fun staff.

Fantastic experience: Nomads is an unbelievable location with the friendliest staff! The rooms are amazing and very clean! Great prices at the bar for drinks and food! Will absolutely be coming back soon!

Negative experience: Rooms were dirty - bed sheets had marks on them. Fan was wobbling when on. Pictures on the website looked much better than in real life. Bed had springs pushing against your back. Cold showers. The sea view was nice, however for a private room this was really poor and out dated.

Fantastic experience: My stay at Nomads on Magnetic Island was amazing! The view of the ocean from anywhere in the hostel was incredible. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and the pool was lovely. The restaurant in the hostel was fantastic and makes a delicious eggs benny! The staff were so kind and accommodating and made our stay so relaxing! Would come back in a heartbeat!

Positive experience: First of all I want to say that this place is heaven compared to where I came from (Bounce in Cairns, seriously, don't go there). Nice quiet location with a bus stop next to the hostel, awesome views and some of the rooms are very cozy. The kitchen equipment is good as well, furthermore there is a laundry which I used. In front of the kitchen there are hammocks. I really like the property overall and it gives me holiday resort vibes. Also, there is a bar area but fortunately it is quite far away from the rooms means you can't hear the bar noise from your room. I want to emphasize that SOME of the rooms are, at least my first room. The staff made me change rooms after two days because they didn't understand that I was going to extend my stay, which I clearly pointed out when I checked in. So at first they charged me 40$ for not bringing the keys back, in the evening they noticed they've made a mistake. I got a refund (currently still waiting for my money) but I had to change my room anyways. The new room felt smaller and darker and I definitely was more happy with the first one. Some of the matresses are too soft as well. Toilets are mostly clean but the showers aren't satisfying since there are rain showers only and the water is not hot enough. Also the kitchen opens at 6am which is annoying for people who want to catch the first bus at 5:40am. Luckily I remembered that the day before and took my food with me to the room otherwise if I left it in the kitchen I couldn't have taken it with me in the morning as the kitchen is locked till 6. To draw a line this place still is alot better than the place I've been to before but could also need some improvement.

Fantastic experience: Myself and my partner booked 2 nights in the private room with an en-suite and it was beautiful. The room had a stunning private terrace looking directly onto the sea, which featured a little table and chairs too. The shower was spacious with hot water, the room had air con, a fridge, and the bed was so comfy. It was definitely on the pricier side hence why we were only able to go for 2 nights, but it was 100% worth it. I can’t speak for the dorm rooms or shared showers/ facilities though so please note that. The hostel has direct access onto the beach and also has a swimming pool so plenty of options to cool off without even having to leave. The food was good. Good veggie options, I loved the beyond meat burger. My partner did feel a bit ill after having the meat burgers though so maybe be careful there. As for drinks, they have a happy hour and you get a free drink on arrival too. They have live DJs on Saturday nights as well. They also have screens playing the football. The scenery and natural beauty is unmatched and you can spot all sorts of wildlife from the rooms alone. There’s a bus stop right outside the hostel too, and also electric scooters are available. Oh and you can hire out snorkelling gear which is a $20 deposit I think. Honestly the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in, but I do think that’s partly do with the fact we got the private room. Positive experience: I'd give it 3,5 if I could. The staff is super friendly and helpful, however from what I saw a lot of the facilities need some updating. If you want to go snorkeling on magnetic island you can't beat nomads for location though. They're right next to the Nelly Bay trail and rent the gear for 25 AUD/day. I really recommend going for a snorkel if you're staying there.

Negative experience: Very run down, rooms and bathrooms were not clean, rooms very cramped and no lockers. Poor social spaces. Rude staff who looked bored. Great location with a sea view. Food was ok. Bar closes very early (10.30) and there is nowhere else to go, BYO is also not allowed. Food was stolen from kitchen. Only accessible by bus which is once an hour so need to be organised. Bus drivers are very impatient to people with luggage.

Positive experience: Wonderful place with an amazing view from rooms. Unfortunately, it would deserve a better staff (especially at the bar). They didn’t get any motivation/smile to manage games during the night. However I spent a great time cause I was with my friends.

Positive experience: This hostel is nice. We had a really good time there. The outside area is amazing. The rooms are clean & just look like the pictures. If you don’t wanna rent a car/scooter, there’s a bus stop right next to Nomads which is also a good. I can absolutely recommend it.

Positive experience: Great Hostel! The outside areas are beautiful with the pool, the bar and kitchen. It’s next to the beach and very social. There are event every evening and the rooms are very clean. Had a nice stay there!

Positive experience: Great hostel, specially the bar - pool area was really nice. The room was the worst part, we booked a 6 people room which was really small and with almost no space to leave our bags. No lockers or anything at all. Main spaces were pretty clean (for a hostel) and food from the bar was great. Good location if you have car/scooter, otherwise it's a bit complicated to move around the island, even though it's quite small.

Fantastic experience: Hostel is world class , I have been traveling for over a year and this is one of the best hostels if you’re looking for a good vibe outside and not sitting in your room . Mika is a very nice girl and is always there to help when you need it . ( thanks Mika )

Negative experience: 1. Locations: okay There’s bus stop nearby, so it’s convenient for you to reach and leave. The beautiful Hawkins lookout is near, despite it’s 30 minutes walking. 2. Kitchen: There’s no bowls in the kitchen. There’s only plates and cups in the kitchen. So when I cooked instant noodles, I needed to eat with pot. And they are easily running short of forks. But fridge is okay, because people don’t stay here long, so even though it’s occupied, but still space for you. But for there’s no indoor eating area near kitchen. Well, you can go to the bar area, but it’s 50m away. 3. Room: there’s NO lockers in the room. And the door is not really locked when you leave. It seems fancy to stay in their cabin rooms, but actually it’s just appearance. There’s no lockers in the room, so I need to try to find other ways to protect my laptop. And I got bites. I guess it’s bedbugs. 4. Bathroom: you need to walk 30-40m to the bathroom. And there’s sand on the way. So your foot will get dirty again after shower. The quality of toilet and bathroom is not very clean. It’s like the bathroom in public swimming pools. But the one that cleans less often. 5. Other: (1) reception closes at 5pm. I think it’s too early, if you want to call them through the phone. (2) if you use Telstra, the Wi-Fi in hostel is the only place you can get internet. But it’s weak sometimes. (3) there’s no suitable place with tables for you to use a charging laptop. There’s tables, but you can’t find places to charge. (4) the price of laundry is 6 dollars, and you need to pay by card. And the dryer is 5 dollars. 6. Summary: For me, the ranking of this hostel is 3 stars. It’s wide, and with beach nearby. The quality is endurable. But I felt upset after getting bitten by the bedbugs. That’s why I put 2 stars.

Negative experience: We didn’t have a good stay in this hostel. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting, there were cockroaches in the kitchen, and no lockers in the room so no space at all to leave our belongings. Would definitely not recommend staying here.

Negative experience: The hostel is located right next to the sea, so the view from the bar/restaurant is really amazing. Good prices within happy hour. But that’s kind of the only good thing, the rooms are really small, you can’t put your bags anywhere and the beds are so cheap that they are shaking with every movement. The AC was also not working. The kitchen is very small as well and the bathrooms are extremely dirty. Would not come here again.

Negative experience: Don't let the prospect of a beautiful view fool you. I've got one word for this place and it's CHEAP! Stopped off to have a couple of cold ones and watch the sunset. Was pushed aside and told to stand in a line of 50 people wanting to order food when all we wanted was beers! The backpackers with their free drink tokens were prioritized but not before you had served the couple of old boys at the bar their beers. As a local the service we received was DISGUSTING! Took our business elsewhere and will never return.

Negative experience: Walked in to grab a couple of drinks and was rudely told other people, with little plastic tokens, were to be served before me. I'm sorry, but my money is good EVERYWHERE!!

Fantastic experience: The staff was the friendliest staff I ever had in a hostel!!! So so kind and helpful. The hostel has an amazing view and really nice vibes. Highly recommend staying here. Had the best time!!!

Fantastic experience: Stayed over the Easter Weekend in one of the 6 bed dorms. Beds and rooms were clean. Great food in the bar and a really fun night when there was a DJ on Saturday night. Really friendly and helpful staff. Definitely my favourite hostel on my East Coast trip! Will definitely be coming back soon

Negative experience: I’m not a huge fan of Nomads hostels, but even by Nomads standards this place wasn’t great. I can give a lot of things a pass (no lockers, cramped kitchen) but the bathroom here were disgusting. I spent 3 nights and the trash was overflowing the entire time. As for pros, the location is gorgeous, right on the beach. There are activities every night and they are super fun.

Positive experience: Great location and food was amazing! Toilets were gross and never had toilet paper, rooms full of bugs (everyone in our 6 bed dorm got bitten every night), you’re often stood at the bar waiting to be served whilst staff were just chatting to each other. In our big group 3 of the dorm room doors didn’t lock so anyone could walk in and out… Maitenence came to look but did nothing to fix.

Negative experience: Hostel is extremely gross! Stayed here for 2 nights in the tipee dorms. Bugs everywhere! Crawling on your face during the night and day. The bathrooms were extremely gross too and infested with all sorts of critters. They were also never cleaned.

Negative experience: Witnessed a male member of staff grab a 19 year old female traveller. This left her in tears. Immediately complained and was told they could do nothing about it. Still cannot believe what I witnessed. Despicable. In addition but much less important: the bathrooms are foul, as are the ceilings and floors in the room. At first glance it looks clean but is not, and has gaps around the door allowing cockroaches to get in at night (found one in my bed).

Fantastic experience: Had an amazing stay. Only for one night but still amazing! Nice pool, cozy rooms, great bar and great food. No lockers in the room would be my only complaint. Buses on the Island were cheap and very convenient as well!

Fantastic experience: My friends and I went camping here for one night for a weekend trip to Magnetic Island. Awesome spot! Affordable and fun. The bar and the DJ were fun but they didn't go on too late so we were able to get some sleep. The views from the beach right next to the hostel are unrivaled. HIGHLY recommend!

Positive experience: Not the worst hostel I have stayed in. The room I stayed in had an amazing sea view (arguably the best aspect) the inside of the room was unclean, ceilings look like they have not been cleaned for a long time. I enjoyed being far away from the bar area, otherwise I don’t think I would have slept as music is blasted until 2am. Also, on-site camping is allowed and this attracted people who also blasted their own music until the early hours. All in all, not a bad stay. If you find yourself on the beautiful Magnetic Island, I’d recommend staying in a hotel (if you can) otherwise this place will do the job for a night or two. I wouldn’t stay again, I’m not sure on the prices per night as I booked my trip through an agency. If I was to return, I’d spend the money on a hotel.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service and very unreasonable cancellation policy. I unfortunately had to cancel my upcoming trip due to unforeseen circumstances, I did try to arrange to cancel my booking a few weeks prior to my check in - but had to follow up numerous times and received conflicting information. I paid $200 in total which the hostel claims could not be refunded, instead, they want me to pay $200 extra for a cancellation fee... So ridiculous! Honestly the worst customer service, I’d recommend booking anywhere else on the island. I will not be staying with nomads ever again

Positive experience: Beautiful location and views. Sadly was rather windy at night making it cooler on the property. Best to have a jumper incase eventhough it's meant to be summer ☀️ Sunset however isn't available eventhough it overlooks the beach. Horshoe Bay is where the Sunsets are at and locations you can find via foot or your own vehicle there at magnetic Island

Negative experience: First the positive: the location with ocean view is really beautiful. But now unfortunately the negative, which significantly outweighs it: the completely overpriced private room was incredibly dirty. We voluntarily used the shared showers because our shower was full of mold. Mold was also in the air conditioning, so we couldn‘t turn it on! The fridge was also dirty so you didn't want to store your food in it. There was also an ant problem. There were ants running around everywhere on the floor in the bathroom and you could even find them in the kettle. The mattress was completely sagging, so back pain was guaranteed. In addition, the equipment was simply old and run down. For example, a fluorescent tube was missing, so we had far too little light. And one of the side windows wasn't tight at head height, which meant you got a constant draft while sleeping. Honestly, for that money you can go to a real hotel that isn't so run down and dirty!

Fantastic experience: The private rooms are incredible and the location is great as well. Thursday nights with Cameron as the host for the bingo are hilarious. Definitely recommend to stay here!

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for 5 days back in 1990 during my PADI course in Arcadia. Think it was called something Shark Bay back then. Had tanks with small sharks. Great accommodation and facilities and run by a group of people committed to the conservation of the island and it's beautiful nature and fauna.

Positive experience: Absolutely beautiful spot ! Real friendly staff and cheap food. Would like to see more recycling bins & preferably not plastic cups being used at bar ❤️

Fantastic experience: Incredible location, beach right on the doorstep of the island. Rooms are generally very clean and good facilities available. Sophie and Katy were super friendly to me and helped me get back into my room whilst on shift in the kitchen. Best place to stay on the island!

Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic time at this hostel, it was right on the beach and the view was incredible especially at sunrise!! The food and drink included in my package were fab. Kitchen facilities were clean and they even had air fryers! Also the staff were really friendly and welcoming especially Josh, Katy and Sophie. Will definitely be back :)

Positive experience: Great location and very social hostel. The food at the island burger is very good, honestly best burger I have had in ages. The rooms are good but the toilet block needs a renovation as is very old. The internet is horrible and drops out all the time, I was trying to do some work while there and was impossible. They really need to fix it

Fantastic experience: An absolutely amazing place to stay and work! I stayed here as a guest to begin with and loved it so much that I asked if there were any jobs going - I ended up staying for 3 months! The views are unreal and you never get used to waking up in paradise everyday, you wouldn’t believe it was a hostel you were actually staying in. Some of the best sunrises and sunsets I’ve ever seen. The food is unreal - still some of the best burgers I’ve ever had so do not give them a miss. The nightly events are such good fun as well and an amazing way to get to know new people. 10/10 would recommend to anyone - do not miss this amazing place!

Positive experience: The location of the hostel is amazing, right on the beach and has a pool. The bungalows are cute and relatively quiet, although can get cold at night. They staff is really amazing. Josh and Katie in housekeeping are so nice and friendly. Everyone behind the bar (Cam, Ben, Henry, are fun and do a great job getting you involved) And Kevin and Chloe in reception have helped me with my multiple bookings and room moves. And the two sams are both legends. Wifi is choppy/non existent in the rooms but works in the common areas. I definitely would recommend.

Positive experience: I had an awesome time at Base hostel! The people are friendly, the rooms are clean and the scenery is just stunning. When renting a snorkel though, make sure to try it on beforehand since mine didn't work at all. Also, make sure to return the Snorkel before 5pm because you will lose your deposit otherwise!

Positive experience: The location is beautiful and has a really cool vibe, kind of tropical. Overall, I 100% recommend it but it has its perks. I stayed in a shared room which was fine, though I would had appreciated having a bath towel as they do give in Airlie Beach's Nomads. The double bedroom seemed really cool, first line with great views to the sea. Unfortunately, although being a really cool place, its quite unfortunate if it rains. Also, the cleanliness in the common areas was quite poor, mainly in the kitchen. I guess it depends mostly on the people that visits it, it's a shame because you could see many of them just don't care on maintaining it clean. Really bad wifi connection. Really loud music until midnight, which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for.

Positive experience: Staff were all super friendly and the location is beautiful! However the cleanliness was very poor - I arrived to my room with stained sheets, ants eating some food (even though everyone had arrived that day) by my bed and lots of dirt in the corner. When I notified the reception staff they were really kind and helpful and made sure my sheets were changed and the ants got rid of but there was still lots of dirt on the floor. The bathrooms are quite pretty smelly and dirty and the kitchen is tiny, pretty dirty and seemed to only have one or two spoons! The staff were great but the cleanliness was not.

Fantastic experience: Amazing spot in an amazing location! Had so much fun here, the most unreal location overlooking the ocean, with a beautiful view and tropical vibes. Great place to relax during the day and go out exploring & then you get to enjoy the nighttime entertainment at the bar. The bar staff as well were incredibly helpful, engaging & hospitable! The food was amazing and the girls on reception were super super helpful. I could not say more about this place other than you 100% have to stay!

Fantastic experience: This Hostel has the best location ever as it is directly at the waterfront and there is a Bus stop right next to it. The staff is super nice and helpful with all the questions I had! The food that was served was super delicious, especially the banana bread for breakfast.

Fantastic experience: Had a great stay at a beautiful location! Amazing views with a great pool & beach access. The food was incredible with a great variety of choice. The bar staff were super helpful when I lost my phone, it was a Saturday night and super busy and I believe Cameron took his time out from the bar to help me find it, really really helpful and very kind. Would 100% recommend a stay here!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been in many hostels so far and this is definitely the best one! With its pool, the amazing location directly on the beach and its own bar & restaurant it feels more like a hotel than a hostel. There are events every evening from karaoke to live DJs and it’s the most popular place for the locals to come and party there as well. The staff at the reception was super nice and went above and beyond to help me with all my enquiries. This place ensures you a good time!

Positive experience: So much potential!!! Location is beautiful, though a bus ride away from the ferry. Cool bar, friendly staff, bathroom pretty clean, beautiful sunset hiking spot nearby (see pic). It could be a 5 star hostel, but there are some points that need attention like the small kitchen and incorrect opening hours. The main thing for me was that I was literally freezing at night and couldn't get a blanket. They should offer a blanket when checking in, so people don't lose sleep over this.

Positive experience: Overall, a really nice pretty hostel, in a beautiful location right on the beach. However, the kitchen was tiny for the size of the hostel and it was dirty. There was no mugs so if you wanted to make a cuppa or a coffee in the morning, you had to go and ask the bar if you could borrow one. I stayed in May which is Australia's winter, it was so cold at night in our dorms and everyone I spoke to said the same. All we were given was a thin sheet. My friend asked the reception if she could have a blanket ( previously, I have either been given a blanket or able to ask for one ) and apparently they didn’t have enough for the entire hostel and had none left. Very disappointing. So everyone was cold at night with the A/C on which you couldn’t turn off. It was a pretty hostel with gorgeous views but those things let it down a bit, Z the kitchen and sleep are 2 of the most important factors when on a budget and backpacking!

Negative experience: Hostel itself is fine, loved the little huts as dorms and it is very social. Service however was awful. I came back from a hike and could not get into the room, one of the girls in the room let me in and I noticed that all my stuff was gone. Went to reception and was helped by someone from barstaff telling me I had to switch rooms and asking if no one had told me - which I responded to they had not and it also hadn’t changed on the Goki app. He doubted that and did not respond well. I saw my backpack behind the reception and it turned out someone from staff had packed my bag for me and taken it there which gave me a very bad feeling. The guy told me to take it up with reception next morning and ‘hoped all my stuff was in the bag’.. came into the new dorm shortly after only to hear one of my old roommates had a similar experience and also was not informed about needing to switch rooms. Reception the day after said they would ‘tell the manager and maybe we need a new policy’ and that was it. Felt very bad about someone packing my bag and going through my things while I was away and very ignored by staff afterwards, surely there is a better way to do these things.

Negative experience: Lame evenings.. the staff is not amused at all .. they’re coming into the rooms and take away your alcohol even though it’s closed and nobody’s drinking it. The kitchen is dirty as hell and they don’t even have towels to dry the dishes.. bathrooms are so bad .. no toilet paper and all dirty. The food at the bar is good tho and the pool is nice. It would be much nicer if the staff would be funnier and more chilled.

Fantastic experience: Such a cool hostel. Rooms are nice and cold, pool is good, bar is sociable. Only issue for me was the kitchen. Given that it was smaller than one of the rooms, it can’t really accommodate the whole hostel’s bags etc. would mention the showers and toilets being far from the dorm too, but that’s varies with which dorm you’re in and isn’t the biggest of deals. The black jeep hire car from the hostel is also very good value and is allowed on the off road section of the island where you can watch sunsets in peace.

Negative experience: The view from the hostel is amazing but honestly that is the only good thing about the hostel. When we arrived there was a used tampon in the shower and after 4 nights the tampon was still there which means that the bathroom was not cleaned properly the whole time. Also, there wasn't enough cutlery at all! We ate our noodles with a knife, our porridge with a ladle and drank our coffee from a bowl. The Wi-Fi didn’t really work at all - you shouldn't hope for internet connection there either!

Fantastic experience: Stayed in a private cabin with sea view & it was everything we wanted ... incredible view, sound of crashing waves, cute cabin with all the basics you'de need for a few nights, private bathroom & sea view balcony/deck with table & chairs. Staff were always super helpful & accommodating & drinks at the bar were really well priced ($8 for a G&T). Beam scooters & bus stop right outside the hostel. Really enjoyed our stay

Fantastic experience: We stayed in one of the a-frame cabins and absolutely loved it. Such a picturesque spot, and the room was cool & comfy & clean. The restaurant on site was also super good! Definitely more of a party atmosphere but we were also able to have a romantic couples weekend there having our own cabin.

Positive experience: Good food and great atmosphere with events on every night. However, the wifi is atrocious and there is little to no phone signal so you would think the wifi would be good. Also bathrooms are so far from the rooms.

Positive experience: Visited the bar on Friday evening, good atmosphere and amazing views, definitely worth having a beer at sunset and the food was really good. Though the portion size for the rosemary chips was terrible considering what we paid. The bar is expensive, cheaper to drink at other places on the island but this seems to be common with Nomad hostels. Not quite tailored to the backpackers in that respect!

Negative experience: 1 star goes to the friendly staff; 1 star goes to the ocean view. $139/night(this is even after discount price) , I would expect at least close to Motel. However , no private bathroom, no mini fridge, no internet. Shared bathroom is very dirty and one of the bin in the toilet hasn’t been changed for 3 days. Sometimes there is no toilet paper. Kitchen is the worst that I have never experienced in any other hostels. (Not clean, I have to use my hand to eat pasta as you can’t find any folks or spoons !) Only 2 white plates that are available to use . So for this living condition, I would say the price is way too expensive.

Negative experience: Arrived to check in to extremely rude stuff making everything a problem. Extremely poorly run. First of all states on the board KITCHEN OPEN 8-10:30 so I went to get breakfast to be told unfortunately there’s not enough for everyone so only goes to people with vouchers but no where says vouchers only. Secondly my bag with food and boxes in the fridge was chucked in the bin and when I told staff they abruptly said “there’s nothing we can do about it” after throwing out shopping I paid for. My girlfriend was perved on naked in the shower, taking pictures and videos of her and after telling the manager he said there’s nothing that he could do later happening again. The place states has WIFI however when I spoke to the staff they said they have WI-FI but it ‘doesn’t work’. Been absolutely frozen every night due to the aircon being set and having no remote. Lastly the handle on my room broke, let reception know and the care taker didn’t turn up to fix it till the following day after we fully got locked out . Absolutely disgusting place, would not recommend.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing time here! The view from the rooms is insane and you can roll right onto the beach. The staff was amazing, Ilya and Asya from reception helped me plan my entire trip which was really nice. Make sure to stay for Bingo Thursday which was a lot of fun. The kitchen and bathroom were nice and clean I’d definitely come back again.

Negative experience: The only good thing about this hostel is the location. It is really close to the beach and you can get the bus to go everywhere around the island just in front. The kitchen is completely old and really dirty, there’s no cutlery, no pans, no soap. The bathrooms were disgusting, I spent 4 days there and they were not cleaned even once. Showers were full of hair among other things. Wi-Fi never works no matter where you are. So noisy and full of drunk and stoned people. I would recommend you to go somewhere else.

Positive experience: Just went there for the burger (I had the bacon one). It was absolutely delicious, I think they make the patties themselves. But yeah really really good. Don't forget to specify if you want fries with it. On the other hand, the music is totally random, very, VERY loud, and the speakers crackle so much, it's really unpleasant and ruins the whole experience.

Fantastic experience: We loved this place. Location is great. A short bus hop from the ferry terminal, or a 25 minute walk and it's right next to the beach. You can see the sunset & snorkel and they have a bar all day and a kitchen from 5:30-8:30pm The food wasn't bad. Good pizzas and they can accommodate dairy free (no cheese) pizzas too! C. $12 for a margarita so not bad at all! Beers on happy hour are pretty good too if you get the $14 jugs! Rooms are awesome. We were in a private room and you get an ensuite bathroom, AC and a fan and fridge + a comfy double bed and a stunning view of the ocean. Easy to get around magnetic Island from here and get the bus to see the rock wallabies, koalas, for etc Really liked it. Would recommend for cheap cheerful and scenic
