Negative experience: The Rock Tour company has not responded to emails or phone calls in regards to refund requests due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. I have emailed the company 10 times from Mid March 2020 to End of July with not one email response. We are Canadian travelers who can not fly to Australia to experience the tour and therefore are requesting a full refund. Their lack of customer service and response to this situation is disgusting. Address these Refund Requests ! Reply to Emails !

Fantastic experience: Definitely the best tour I ever had in Australia !!!! I did the 3 day Alice Springs to Uluru/Kata Tjuta/Kings Canyon and back to Alice Springs all include. The tour was led by Riley, which I liked to mentioned because he makes our tour such an amazing experience. The group (about 20 people) was really friendly, Riley makes us feel like a family during those 3 days. Riley thanks again for this unforgettable tour, for your impressive knowledge about the parks, for your good vibes, your smile and all the hudge efforts made for us during those 3 days.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience thanks to The Rock Tour. The guide Donk was always fun, caring and willing to help. He did a really good job to give us better experience in many ways. I won’t forget this trip in my life, majestic places with nice people.

Fantastic experience: We had an amazing trip thanks to our awesome guide Donk! I’ve never seen anyone put as much effort and passion into his work as a guide. He bent over backwards for the group: cooked for us, gave us snacks, told us amazing stories of every places we visited and looked after everyone! An amazing way to visit the outback!! I highly recommend this tour !

Fantastic experience: I had a great time on my „4-day Uluru Tour (Ayers Rock to Ayers Rock)“ with Ken. While I had to get used to the whole camping experience (the sleeping bags consist of a thin mattress with a rather stiff sack around it that loads of other people slept in before as well as everything being dusty), it was well worth it: Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon were equally amazing. Ken gave us a lot of interesting background information. We were 19 people on the 1st day (age 19-around 60), 12 up until noon on the 2nd day and only 10 for the rest of the tour and really bonded as a group which made the experience even nicer. I can highly recommend this tour. Just make sure to read the itinerary before you book as it is a camping (not a „glamping“) trip, including the collection of fire wood for dinner on the 2nd day, lots of time on the bus (especially the 6 hour drive back to Ayers Rock from Alice Springs) and cleaning up after yourself (washing dishes and setting up your sleeping bag).

Positive experience: First thing you should do when booking this tour is ask how much extra driving and dropping off you will be doing. There are better places to start from on this Tour. I started it from Alice Springs and it is a lot of driving which is fine, but the extra driving is too much. If you are ok with the extra driving time you will be rewarded with a great experience. Our tour guide Donk (Matt) is worth six stars. Not only is he one of the hardest working guides out there, he made sure everything ran smoothly. Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon were legendary. Camping under the stars was very special. I've never seen the Milky Way galaxy so clearly with my own eyes. I wish I could have spend a few more nights camping outside. Great tour, great guide, great price. This will be a highlight of my trip.

Fantastic experience: We had a amazing trip mostly because of our totally awesome guide Robert. I’ve never seen anyone put as much effort attention and passion into his work. His detail of the desert and it’s history was accurate, funny and Insightful( not bad for a German:) Robert even brought me my hat to me at dinner after i left it in the bus after the tour. Highly recommend these guys for a trip. I’d give them six stars if I could !

Fantastic experience: Hi guys, I really enjoyed this 3 day tour to Uluru. It's a great experience. We had a great guide (Mishka) who shared his knowledge;) and showed us peculiar ! People were so friendly and nice. We could share amazing moments together (one of them was the sunrise at Uluru). Kata tjuta and king's Canyon were also incredible sites to see. Sleeping in the swag looking out the stars was awesome! I would recommend this budget tour.

Fantastic experience: Where do I begin? This trip really was the trip of a lifetime. If you are wanting a true Aussie outback experience then book this tour!! It was so much better than I expected and I whole heartedly put that down to the tour guide Mishka. He is very knowledgeable & taught us all about the sacred sights and about the Aboriginal culture and traditions. He was very considerate of everyone in the group, asking what we would like to do & suggesting shorter hiking trails if we were tired. The hikes and views you will see really are amazing! My highlight was day two when we had breakfast watching Ayers Rock at sunrise, such a spectacular view!! The group we had where amazing, we all connected straight away and had the best time together, this made the tour even better & I feel it was also due to Mishka and his awesome personality bringing us all together. He suggested we all gather wood together for the fire, cook our meals together & clean up and this really is what bonded us, we were playing music and sharing stories and laughing along the way. It was a true Aussie experience & the way it should be!! Also sleeping under the stars in a swag was truly spectacular - far better than I could have imagined. & Food provided is plentiful, you will not go hungry! The dreaded 6hour bus journey to Alice Springs on the final day actually ended up being bus karaoke, another highlight of the trip! Everyone was singing their hearts out and 6hrs felt like 1hr! This was the start of a very good final night at the Rock Bar. We danced and sang all night and had one of the best nights I’ve had in Aus! I can’t thank Mishka enough for all of his hard work and constant smile on his face, no matter what. He ran after all of us for four days, he had us serenaded in the morning to wake us up, he had all the breakfast set out, he drove and walked with us each day, he found a pool for us to go to because we were so hot, he got the campfire lit each night and all swags etc unloaded each day in extreme temperatures. He really is a credit to The Rock Tour! Amazing trip from start to finish & I’ve made some amazing friends along the way too. Thanks The Rock Tour & Mish for an unforgettable trip!!

Positive experience: For a budget tour, budget being the key word, this tour is good. Our guide was nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. The bus we drove in was old and the AC did not work well. The tour was full with 21 tour participants and it quickly heated up the bus, the AC was no match for the heat outside. We managed but don't expect much out of the transport. Dinners were good and plentiful, they accommodated to me being vegan, but the breakfasts and lunches were basic and small. Sleeping outside was fine, it was sleeping on the ground so don't get too excited, but be prepared for potentially cold nights and bring layers. Bring a travel single blow up mattress if you have one, I did and it really helped. Where I see room for improvement is the management of time. The first day of the tour is a 5 hour drive from Alice Springs to Uluru, then if you have people flying out of Uluru, you drop them at the airport and wait for tour people arriving in Uluru. So you do a 5 hour drive, drop people and then spend a couple hours waiting around for other tour participants to arrive. So the first day you don't really do anything except drive a lot, walk a portion of Uluru base, and see the sunset. We unfortunately didn't see all we expected to see. The other frustrating thing was we were asked to put our luggage away overnight, so we wouldn't have access to it. This made no sense to me, as we had to be prepared for overnight and the next day and then the next day we had to keep all our overnight clothes/toiletries with us. This should be changed, people need access to their bags and it's just not logical. We saw the sights, if that's your expectation you'll be plenty happy. I enjoyed the trip and happy I did it, though it was more budget than I expected.

Fantastic experience: We did the 3 day Rock tour. It really was better than we expected. Our guide (Mishka) was incredible and made everyone feel included. He was also very knowledgeable about the Anangu people and shared a lot of information about the rock formations and how the indigenous people used their surroundings. The 2 nights sleeping in swags under the stars was beautiful. Would recommend downloading an app which helps identify the star formations. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved which can make the experience richer and more personal. 100% would recommend to people looking for a down to earth and real Aussie outback experience!!! Negative experience: Terrible customer service, I lost my flight and I understand cancellation policy but they have one different in every site. There are other compannies out there, pick one who values their customers. Their suggestion was, "Maybe next time don't loose your flight".

Fantastic experience: Amazing tour!! I enjoyed a lot everything, cooking on the fire, camping under the stars and driving with good music to Alice Springs! Robert (our guide) was terrific, really fun and enthusiastic, thank you a lot 10/10 definitely!!

Negative experience: I had dreamt about this for my whole life, coming to Uluru and experience the Rock of rocks. I traveled over the whole world to come here, it would have been amazing if it wasn't for our super grumpy tour guide, it was really not fun. She did not say anything about what we saw and she seemed like not wanted to be there at all. Luckily we had each other in the group and the beautiful scenery and landscape around us. Also, I have to say that the tour company has been good to deal with before the tour and after, they promised to talk to the guide, hopefully, no one else will have the same experience I had.

Positive experience: We had a great time on the tour. The guide was knowledgeable, fun, and had a great music playlist but did get very testy with several people on several occassions. We enjoyed the hikes, the guided tours, the dinners, and the swags - although be prepared to spend restless, cold nights if you are travelling in the winter...it was about 1-2 deg C at night.

Fantastic experience: This was an unforgettable tour. 3 days in the Outback was quite an experience. We had to switch buses twice but with minimal disruption. Our tour guide Ben remained calm and composed throughout the trip, and was witty and funny even when we were exhausted or struggling through the midday heat. I learnt a great deal on this trip - about the environment of Central Australia and of the Anangu and their culture. I would definitely come back to learn more about their Tjukurpa or way of life, and to once again see Uluru at sunset. Sleeping in swags under the stars was a lot more comfortable than I'd imagined, and walking King's Canyon a lot more uncomfortable, which couldn't be helped. Overall, I loved this trip, and would consider come back.

Fantastic experience: Awesome tour with our guide Damo, we saw everything we needed to see: uluru in sunset, sunrise, kata tjuta and kings canyon. You'll wake up early to see the sunrises but it's 100% worth it. Damo was an awesome guide, always the smile, good cook, give photo advices and we can tell be loves his job. Lots of car but it's normal.

Fantastic experience: Quelle aventure !

Fantastic experience: We spend the 3 days tour with our guide Jayden, the experience was amazing, landscapes, hikes, culture and sleeping under the stars is unique. For our first tour it was great, and Jay have done a pretty nice job with the group, explaining everything right with lots of knowledge! The rhythm was a bit too fast for me tho.

Positive experience: If the places we visited on this tour weren't so incredible, this score would have been lower due to our tour guide Andrew. He treated our group like we were dumb tourists, didn't get to know any of our names and acted like a drill sergeant for most of the 3 days. Despite his attitude, what we saw and experienced was absolutely wonderful and I would recommend this trip highly for the stunning scenery and the experience of sleeping in swags under the stars.

Fantastic experience: I spent 5 months in Australia and this was my highlight. I had an extremely informed guide who could confidently answer all of our questions, both geographical as well as traditional/aboriginal related. The best tour by far. Stay at the YHA, also.

Fantastic experience: I have been in Australia for 14 weeks in 2010-2011 and it was by far my best experience was the tour of The Rock tour. I think that every one travelling in Australia should go for the Rock Tour. Thank you again.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant few days with Wookie and Nicole. Trip was very well organised and had plenty of food for everyone. The guided walks were great and very interesting. Top notch!

Rachael whan 8 years ago

Positive experience: The structure of the tour was good, however, as others reviews have also noted, some of the operators are not the most professional. It felt at times a bit more like a boot camp. So if you don't want to be pushed around, be barked at with orders for three days and woken up with a loud stereo in your face at 5 am you might want to choose another tour group.

Hayden Mickelson 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: I'm not usually one that enjoys tours, but this was one that I will never forget. Reid was a great guide. He did well including everyone and helping us all feel welcome. He also has a great knowledge of the indigenous people and area, which made our hikes much more meaningful. Great stuff!

Fantastic experience: Had a great time on this tour. Go in expecting to sleep in swags. Wake up at 4am and go for long walks. Do the research about each tour company. If you want to climb the rock. Don't take this one. But I would recommend this to anyone wanting to see Uluru and the surrounding areas on a budget.

Fantastic experience: The Rock Tour with our tour guide Donk was a 6 star experience which far exceeded our expectations. Child-friendly too. Authentic experience of the great outdoors. Well organised, well paced, and plenty of food. Great value for money. Make memories to last a lifetime and leave with a great sense of achievement and connection.

Fantastic experience: It's was my better tour in Australia. 3 amazing days with Matt. During the travel we did some game to met each other. With the rock tour you're not in an hotel, you have to find some wood to do the fire, you cook in the middle of no where. It's really an adventure. The guide told you the indien's story and how respect this culture. The sunset and sunrise near uluru was beautiful. If you are young and like adventure go with rock tour !

Negative experience: When we booked the tour in December and when checking in at the office the day before departing from Alice Springs we were told that we would be able to climb Uluru if the weather allowed it. However, when we asked the guide on the way to the site we were told that it was a very disrespectful thing to do and that the climb had been closed since October anyway. Fair enough, but it is plain dishonest (or perhaps unprofessionalism) to promote the climb in such a way. Our guide was charmingly annoying most of the time, as any guide should be, however, after struggling with language barriers between him and some Korean girls for the first two days he just gave up on them and acted rude towards them. Quite disrespectful. The sites were great but the tour was not and I would recommend choosing another company.

Fantastic experience: Had a great time with this tour. Our tour guide, Mark, was the best guide. Camping in swags under the stars, hiking to kings canyon, and exploring Uluru were some of the highlights from our trip. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone that wants the true Outback experience.

Negative experience: 가이드 인종차별한다 친구들이나 지인들이 울룰루 간다고 하면 이곳은 추천안한다!!!! 밥도 무슨 밥 같은걸 줘야지 식자재 위생도 안좋고 마음에 안든다

Fantastic experience: Completely brilliant three days, learnt so much about Aboriginal culture and practices and really got to experience the outback by sleeping in swags and eating kangaroo tail! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the tour took great measures to make sure we stayed hydrated and didn't flag too much in the scorching sun!

Alice Springs 12 years ago

Negative experience: On joining the “The Rock Tour”, I immediately got the sense I was been treated like a child. For example, the Northern Territory National Parks recommend you bring 3 litres of water on most of the walks you will do. Like everyone else on the tour, I know my body better than a government bureaucrat who is out to cover their back; 3 litres of water is overkill for a person of reasonable fitness to complete these simple hikes. But it’s only a recommendation right? WRONG. ‘The Rock Tour’ in their wisdom have decided to make the absurd 3 Litre recommendation a requirement. That’s right, no 3 Litres, no walk. Of the 21 people on my tour, no one I talked to drank more than one litre on a given walk. So rather than aid you on your walk, you will just get really annoyed that you have to carry around over 2 litres of water that you are never going to drink. The second major failing of ‘The Rock Tour’ is the extent to which religion is forced down your throat in the guise of ‘culture’. For example, the guide (Josh) told some aboriginal creationist stories almost as a plausible alternative to our geological understanding of how rocks and landscapes are formed. The guide also bragged that out of ‘religious respect’ he did look at certain rocks. In addition, he also made reference to stories he said he knew but could not tell us because of ‘religious reasons’, yet once I got mobile signal just down the road, I looked up Uluru on Wikipedia, and there the stories were. I can understand why the guide does this; he is obviously in awe of aboriginal culture he has come to know and love. However, in doing so, the he has lost all sense of perspective and objectivity. ‘The Rock Tour’ also uses religion as the principle reason for not allowing travellers to climb the rock. That’s right, YOU ARE NOT OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CLIMB THE ROCK! (I found this a little under handed as many of us wanted to climb it and assumed we would be offered the choice, but this outright ban isn’t mentioned on their website or the FAQ section). The Tour Guide also mentioned that ‘The Rock Tour’ supports a political campaign to close the rock to climbers, and asked our group to support this campaign by passing on the message to our family and friends. I found this overt political pressure offensive, as I don’t agree that the climb should be closed. For me, Uluru is a breath taking piece of naturally occurring geology that should not be selfishly monopolised by one religion. The rock itself has only been ‘religiously significant’ for less than 0.0001% of its existence. As a person who does not believe in religion or superstition, I found the ‘The Rock Tours’ overtly religious and political ethos un-settling. The politics of climbing the rock should be dropped from the tour, and the decision to climb or not climb left to the individual.
