Wake Up! Bondi Beach

Fantastic experience: I had a great time here and made some good memories. First night Tav and Sonny did an amazing job with wine and cheese night. They came around to all the rooms with a speaker to hype people up and invite them up. I really appreciated the energy they brought to the table. The outdoor rooftop area is really cool with a nice view. Then there is an indoor spot as well to chill on the top floor, but sadly it closes at 10pm. Bathrooms were clean even with all the craziness that happens with hostel life. I would recommend.

Negative experience: Average facilities. There is lack of enforcing quiet hours at night and the walls are paper thin so you will hear absolutely everything...good luck quality sleep.

Positive experience: Hostel is amazing! Would definitely stay here again. Jay on the night shift at the front desk is very helpful and considerate.

Fantastic experience: This is one of the best hostels I ve ever visited. The location is fabulous, right in front of the beach, the facilities are really good with a beautiful rooftop and the rooms are nice and spacious. The organize daily activities which makes easier to engage for solo travelers. Big shoutout to Louis and Ría (hope im writing it correctly:) for being so friendly and hosting the most fun and interesting activities!

Activities proposed all the week, I tried the pancakes delicious ones and coogee beach walk right after to digest :p it was with johanna, very friendly person, we had nice talks all along walk and with team, there was many amazing beaches the whole way

Positive experience: The staff really make this place. they’re super friendly and put a lot of effort into every day activities. the rooms and bathrooms however are super small and there’s not a lot of room to do anything/ get ready/. the roof top is really nice and the daily activities are fun. location is right next to the beach, walking distance from bars/ restaurants

Fantastic experience: Wake Up Bondi is hands down one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at! From the moment I arrived, Maya and Ria made me feel right at home with their warm smiles and welcoming energy. They went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed, offering fantastic local tips and always checking in to see if I was comfortable. The hostel itself was vibrant, clean, and perfectly situated near the beach, but it was Maya and Ria’s genuine hospitality that truly made my stay unforgettable. I couldn’t have asked for better hosts – I’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: Best hostel we’ve stayed in! Stayed for a week until Halloween and had the best time. Couldn’t catch all their names but the staff were amazing. Georgia and crew had so much energy and included everyone. Noise curfew is 10pm and everyone stuck to it which was amazing. Air conditioning in the room worked so fast too

Fantastic experience: Possibly the best hostel to stay at Bondi Beach! Free surf boards are available for rent, they have activities going on every day of the week. Meet new people during the activities, making friends here is rather simple. Staff is excellent and helps you 24/7. The hidden gem is the rooftop that gives you stunning views of bondi beach!

Fantastic experience: Done my first 2 weeks in Sydney here and it was the perfect place to be! Location couldn’t be any better to explore Bondi. The hostels biggest asset is its staff though, made every welcome and were brilliant running the socials. Big shout out in particular to Brian, Lucy, Maya, Tom, Lewis Catia - give them all a raise!

Fantastic experience: Was my first time staying at a wake up hostel and hands down the best one in Sydney. Been backpacking for a year and stayed in about a million and this one takes the cake! The staff are all great, can really feel their commitment to ensuring everyone has a good stay. One person that stood out in particular was Bella - she’s such a goofball she can make anyone feel comfortable. On top of that she’s a top surfer! What a team! Will be back!

We particularly loved Sam who was on reception during the night, letting us into the kitchen to fill up our water bottles, also super helpful around the hostel when we needed heavy bags being lifted. Negative experience: The hostel has a certain irish person named josh who likes to get into peoples faces all the time and thinks it’s appropriate to be rude and aggressive with guests. This guy is unprofessional and needs to be put out of that hostel for the way he acts getting in peoples faces and business all the time stumpy fat spud

I met a lad named Josh who was working at the time I was staying there, and he gave me great recommendations for food and things to sight see! First time In AUS & at Wake Up! but definitely not my last. Looking forward to meeting more of their personable staff next time :)

Negative experience: My room smelled like a sweaty sock. No refunds, insanely dirty. I ran out of there like a bat out of HELL. Run from this place at all Costs!!!!! God forbid you Catch a disease form this Dumpster Fire!!!! Bad front desk service also. Non-Help crew.

Fantastic experience: In my thirties I was a little sceptical at first but was pleasantly surprised to find this hostel a great place to stay. Comfy bunk beds that aren't cramped, a rooftop sunbathing space with some gym equipment, yoga mats and loungers. A work space with tables and chairs and beanbags etc. A communal kitchen with large floor to ceiling fridges for everyone. The staff were very friendly, many were young Brits working their gap year etc. Nearby you have coastal pools, sunrise cliff walks, places to eat, or a bus straight into town!

Positive experience: Rooms are quite tight but overall it's a well run hostel. Great views of the beach. There's a few cockroaches in the bathrooms but they're not aggressive usually.

Fantastic experience: My first hostel experience ever - but the staff (especially Sam, Sophie, and Alicia) were great: they gave me some advice for hostel living, made sure I had everything I needed, and made suggestions for some food spots. I've had a great time - and met some awesome people in my room throughout the stay. Would recommend to anyone arriving in Sydney.

Positive experience: The doors slams very loud, and people at hostels like going back and forth. I sleep with earplugs but they did nothing, tried headphone which muted it a bit but could still hear them very well, especially the doors close to my room. If I slammed a door that loud at home my parents would lose their minds, for reference ^^ Very warm rooms but quite fresh and clean. Pretty basic hostel but great location and rooftop view.

Positive experience: LOCATION ! That’s it. It’s pretty small Kitchen and dinner area small THEY DONT HAVE LIFTS ! The hostel is super small and super expensive for what they offer. The only good thing is the location and a few activities at night that are quiete nice.

Fantastic experience: I was treated magnificently by 2 gentlemen, known by the name of Jakob and Ricardo. These Lads didn‘t only do their job. They went beyond their boundaries to satisfy the needs of me and my fellow traveler.

Fantastic experience: Best is the location. Right on the beach. Multiple showers and storage. Huge kitchen. Closing time for kitchen is 2200 hrs. rooftop sitting areas. Multiple events on weedays too. Friendly staff, clean rooms. Served by public transport. 333 bus 2 mins walk

I have to say i was very impressed with the staff treated everyone with respect The of the staff jake marlon all the girls and guys were fantastic. Its not easy when you work and live in a dorm but i found this enjoyable experience. If you are coming to bondi stay here and not bondi backpackers well worth it

Holly during night shift went above and beyond to full fill my requests. Thanks again Holly for staying so friendly and helpful! And Linda was the best person to check out with, extremely friendly and knowledgeable. All together a short stay but great experience. Room was clean and guests were respectful and slept throughout all the night. Compliments to the management too for running the hostel so smooth and making me want to come back next time I’m in Sydney.

Positive experience: You can tell it’s a little run down, slightly dirty and rooms are very dark. But amazing location, great staff and a good friendly vibe as it feels quite small

The daily events made it easy to connect and meet people; and always gave you something to do each day. The staff made me feel safe and welcomed and were able to assist with any problem I may have had. Will definitely be staying here my next time in Sydney.

Fantastic experience: Myself and Mikey stayed for two weeks here! Best nights of our lives! Everyone was so friendly and helpful! Staff always helped out when it came to cleaning and group nights! Honestly advice everyone to take up the group nights! We had wine and cheese and lots of card games! Thanks guys missing you lots!

Fantastic experience: The hostel itself was clean, had lots of different spaces to hang out, I love the roof terrace! Loads of plug sockets in communal areas which was useful, and plug and light socket by your bed. Having the key on a lanyard is useful and easier to keep it safe. Free surfboard hire was epic (although did give me surf rash on my thighs which I haven’t had from any other boards) and would be good to have a clothes line of some sort on the terrace to dry surf clothes. Nice powerful showers, kitchen well stocked with utensils. Great events on each day. I particularly liked the pancakes for breakfast! And I loved the organised walk from bondi to coogie. Such a great way to meet lots of people. Only downside was people regularly coming in at 4am from a night out slamming doors and being excessively loud. I wish there was an option for a ‘quiet room’ so I could have slept better whilst there.

Fantastic experience: Such a good hostel! Loved staying here so much that we booked an extra night!! Very social, lots of hostel events where it was very easy to meet people. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and the staff were so helpful with everything. Location was perfect and the roof terrace was amazing.

Fantastic experience: I was originally staying here for 3 nights but loved this hostel so much I ended up extending for 1 week! Super clean, great kitchen and social spaces. Every day the hostel has some great social events on. Perfect location for the beach and access to shops. The highlight of my stay was definitely the incredible staff team. Although everyone was amazing, I have to give credit to Joshua and Tom. I’ve been staying in hostels for 6 months and worked in one myself for 2 months. I know the challenge of getting a big group together and making sure everyone is having the best time possible, Josh absolutely smashed it on nights out making sure everybody had someone to talk to and kept the hype up throughout the night without being pushy. Tom went out of his way on a rainy day to show me a walk along the coast and some of the best local spots. Overall I was thrilled with my stay and can’t wait to come back to Bondi in a few months, I’ll definitely be staying here again! :)

Positive experience: This hostel is louder than an Alpha Omega frat house on Friday evening. I've been here for 3 nights (in a private room) and have probably accumulated, in total, 12 hours of sleep. The guests that stay here are big drinkers, due to the nature of youth accommodation, and enter and exit at all hours of the night. Being that the walls are paper thin, you'll get the pleasure of hearing every door slam and drunken word uttered. Guests aren't mindful and staff don't care, as mentioned in other reviews. It's not uncommon to have drunk groups of traveller's congregating directly outside of your door for a chat at 3AM, only hurried along by your verbal requests to bring it elsewhere. I am on the 3rd floor, near the stair-well to the upstairs patio. This is open late and is where people are permitted to be as noisy as possible, my suggestion is stay as far away from this entry point as you can. For anyone trying to sleep in the shared dorms here, GOOD LUCK and GOD SPEED.

Fantastic experience: Wow- WakeUp! Bondi Beach is STILL the best hostel in Sydney (sorry WakeUp! Central). This might even be the best hostel in all of Australia. Let me preface my review by saying that I first stayed in this hostel in early 2019. My first stay here was before WakeUp bought the hostel. My second stay here (mid-2019) was after WakeUp acquired the hostel, but was in the process of transitioning management from the old owners. Both of my precious stays were great. In my second stay, people were nervous that WakeUp would take away the chill and beachy vibe from one of Australia’s best hostels and turn it into a corporate chain. We were all incredibly wrong. Not only has WakeUp brought their incredible customer service and significant investment to this hostel, but they’ve retained everything that makes it great. From wine and cheese night to free surfboard rentals, this hustle has EVERYTHING you could ever want. The rooftop gives you stunning views of Australia’s most famous beach. The hostel is small enough that it’s easy to make friends as soon as you arrive. Not to mention that they have the strongest air conditioning in Australia. Plus, each bed has its own light and plug in outlet. All of this is absolutely incredible. I recently visited Australia for the first time since COVID and stayed in many of the same hostels I did during my first backpacking trip Down Under. While many of the hostels have aged, downsized, or cut amenities - WakeUp! Bondi Beach has only gotten better. Do yourself a favor and stay here. No trip to Australia is complete without staying at WakeUp!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing, staff are very friendly and welcoming. I’ve stayed at Wake Up Bondi multiple times. The location is perfect, right across from the beach, free surfboard hire, multiple activities throughout the week. Any problems the staff are quick to sort them out any questions the staff are happy to answer, across the road from the buss which runs very regularly, you can get a discounted gym pass from them. Woolworths is down the road. The rooms are very spacious and kept clean with housekeeping coming in daily to hoover and empty bins. Lockers are in the room for you to store your stuff in. I love all the staff at Wake Up Bondi! But a big shout out to the best mangers there Luke and Sam ❤️

Positive experience: Positives - amazing location that can't be beaten, free yoga is great, rooftop area is nice and there is plenty of space to work on the top floor. Negatives - rooms are cramped, aren't kept very clean / tend to have a stale smell. There is generally a lack of ventilation and sunlight in the rooms. AC systems seem to have mold in them. When it is turned on I immediately get a headache/ feel unwell since I have a compromised immune system. The staff refuse to believe this but it's true, you can literally see it. The guests tend to be early 20s working holiday crowd (as you would expect). However if you're a bit older like me (30s+) you may prefer going elsewhere. The staff are generally pleasant but also tend to be on working holidays, and sometimes seem pretty disinterested. I can't say I blame them since they probably aren't being paid much, but I think management could do a lot more to improve this place. At the end of the day it's a hostel so I don't expect perfection BUT given the price (around 70 AUD per night) I would expect a lot more. I've stayed in hostels around the world for less than a fifth of the price that are much better.

Fantastic experience: This Hostel is an extremely friendly/clean hostel, every staff member is very helpful and welcoming. This is a great place to meet new people, also their is lots of activities going on where you can get involved and have a laugh. Surf board hire is a huge plus to the hostel and the boards are a good standard. The hostel on a whole is very clean and the kitchen is a good size too.

Fantastic experience: The manager there (male, I forgot his name unfortunately) was incredibly accommodating with some minor booking changes and upgraded me to a private room without me even asking. Definitely beats the downtown Wake Up for its beachfront location and rooftop. Free yoga on the roof in the morning was prime. And I do a lot of yoga so I can be pretty picky.

Positive experience: Convenient if you have to come surfing (they also rent surfboards for free), beach front, amazing views. Nice and clean rooms, as are the bathrooms. The kitchen and dining room are really too small and never clean.

Negative experience: Can I write a review as a neighbour? This absolutely obnoxious, non community caring business allows its equally uncaring obnoxious backpackers to scream and shout on their rooftop every night of the week; the previous owners had a business that was terrible on the weekend, but these guys don’t care whether it’s Monday or Saturday! We may be in Bondi, but some people actually work early for a living, your business is an absolute invasion of community spirit and having backpackers manning the phones, hanging up on locals when we need to complain about the noise is the worst; clearly the owners are not from Bondi, otherwise they would understand how deeply offensive this is, WORST BUSINESS IN BONDI EVER!!!
