Fantastic experience: Did the “Get Wrecked” experience on a work trip with some colleagues. 17 May 2025 The day started off looking like it might be a bit of a rain out, however not long after we arrived it cleared and Sunset Safaris sure did deliver a punch. A special mention goes out to Michel & Jon and the other bloke who was there too, sorry can’t remember name(took us for kayaking) Exceptional inter action with guests and allowing those with more experience a bit more freedom (with in limits) Lunch was perfect, DIY wraps that you could make as big or small as you liked and there was definitely enough for as much as your stomach could handle. Wrecks were incredible and packed with marine life. 4W drive to the sand boarding was great fun. Tip- sit at the back of the bus if you want rollercoaster ride. Sand was a bit moist, but still managed to make some decent runs. Jon assisted those that were less of a thrill seeker and for those who were adrenaline junkies like me, were good to go after a decent demo. On the MCAT ferry, to and from the Island, Jon and Michel made a point of coming around all the guests to say hi and make you feel at ease.

Fantastic experience: I had a great day with the Sunset Safari 'Get Wrecked' tour. Very professional & safety conscious but not over the top or too formal. All staff were fun people and keen to help you have a good time. Very knowledgeable re the local aquatic life too, and staff ensured you didn't miss the under water highlights (wobbegong sharks, turtles etc). The day itself is divided across 3 activities including sandboarding a 70kmh slope (a real hoot), kayaking in twin seat clear bottom craft (very stable) and snorkeling around the Tangalooma Wrecks. Yummy self serve wraps for lunch. The ride across on the MiCat ferry is pleasant and everything is well organised. It is largely a back-packer clientele, and I was probably the oldest geezer on the trip by at leat 20 years! But if you have grey hair and are still keen for some adventure don't hesitate. It was a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing day with the tour, even though the weather wasn’t great. However, the team is amazing (shoutout to Ryan), super nice and very helpful. Once you arrive at the coach station, you have nothing to think or worry about for the whole day, the team is taking great care of you !

Fantastic experience: It was a very good experience. Ryan helped me a lot while snorkeling. This was the first time I am doing snorkeling and I am a poor swimmer as well but he guided me through all the time and made my experience good.

Fantastic experience: An amazing day out with Sunset Safari!! We meet up with the tour at Brisbane port and it was amazing from the very beginning. Moreton is absolutely beautiful and the passion and love for the island is shown from all the staff members. Solomon, Ned, Chandra, Rena & Loch are just a few of the amazing team that run this tour. The activities were organised perfectly and just enough time. The lunch provided was amazing, they went above and beyond with the selection available- by far the best I have seen provided by a tour group. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Fantastic experience: My friend Lauren and I went on the full day tour departing from brissy on Sunday 10/11. What a great experience, Matt was a legend and really made the experience, along with the rest of the crew including Jo and hot Josh and the rest of the fellas, can’t remember their names. Can’t wait to come back and do it all over again! Can’t rate you guys enough!

Negative experience: We were supposed to load in the ferry , and 10 minute before they call us on our phone to ask us to pay 80 dollars each for the ferry it was not mentioned on our booking , so we feel ripped off to pay … for all in all we had to pay 260 dollars per persons. For a trip you book on an island, it is obvious that you have to go there with a ferry. It is not normal to pay extra for a ferry when you book a trip on an island.

Positive experience: Moreton Island Tour from Gold Coast If you choose the option from the Gold Coast, you’ll waste half of your day in a bus/ferry (4:30h to get to the island, 4:30h to get back), just to spend 5 hours on the Island. 30min kayaking, 30min snorkelling, 20min for a super quick DIY lunch and a couple of sandboarding is everything we did. We couldn’t even spend time on the beach as a car stucked on the road ruined our spare time. In overall, I enjoyed the day but it’s simply too much money ($300!) for just 5 hours.

Sunset Safaris Moreton Island

Dear Alejandro,
Thank you for your review.
We note that the timings offered in your review are inconsistent and somewhat exaggerated and feel that it is appropriate to address these inconsistencies for the benefit of other readers.
Our tour is rather fast paced in order to jam as much into our day as possible. We spend 5.5 hours on the island however the amount of time Alejandro has reviewed appears to be only about 2.5 hours.
We spend 1 hour snorkelling including fitting with 45mins in the water. The same amount of time is spent Transparent Kayaking.
We spend 45 mins for lunch, and then another 40 mins 4WDing into the desert with 45 mins sandboarding, and another 40mins 4WDing back to the beach. This all accounts for a little under 5 hours, of which the last 1/2 hour is spent relaxing and enjoying a bit of free time while our tour guides pack away all equipment.
Alejandro, we are sorry that you have not enjoyed your time on the cruise across Moreton Bay to the Island as this is a beautiful part of our experience that most of our customers enjoy. The ferry cruise consists of 90 minutes each way to and from the island, and 5.5 hours of fun on the island for a total of 8.5 hours of cruising and island activities. For Gold Coast customers, the time of travel from the Gold Coast to the port of Brisbane is about 2 hours with another 1.5 hours return home.
Australia is a big country, and the time it takes to get to see the very best places can be lengthy but well worth it for most.
In the case of a 4WD from the public being bogged in the track in front of your 4WD tour bus resulting in limiting your free time on the beach, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this created, as this does happen on occasion due to the rugged nature and adventure of the wilds of Moreton Island. Only 4WD tracks exist on the island to allow us to get to the Desert where we conduct our Sand Boarding activities. Unfortunately less experienced 4WD owners from the public can become bogged resulting in delays on our return to the beach due to being trapped behind them. While this is relatively rare, we do our best to offer our guests the very best experience possible.
Regarding prices, when you take into consideration what a couple or small family would have to pay to perform a similar experiences on their own, the cost effectiveness of our very unique experience is actually amazing. Those who choose to do their own experience on the island need to purchase ferry tickets for themselves as well as their vehicle to be able to traverse the island to get to the desert to perform the Sandboarding activity. They must also purchase National Park Tickets and permits for their vehicle, provide their own food, water drink, fuel and snorkelling equipment. What they can't do is any transparent Kayaking (unless they have a transparent Kayak themselves or hire from us). The eventual cost for a couple or small family to do it on their own is far greater than the fees charged by Australian Sunset Safaris (largely due to the expense of ferry transportation & permit of 4WD car).
We trust that this offers some clarification, and we hope that all readers of this review take note of the great many more reviews that have greatly enjoyed their experience with us.
Kindest Regards,
The Sunset Safaris Team

Fantastic experience: What an awesome tour we had today with the team from Sunset Safaris on Moreton Island. It was so professionally run but with the essential twist of good ol' Aussie humour icing from 'Croc' our 4wd desert guru! He gave our son an unforgettable time.... thanks heaps, you awesome human. I hope we cross paths next time we come back

Negative experience: Always seems to be booked out with school groups. Was asked to come before 1:30 pm, went there only to be told that it’s been hired out by a school group for later that night. Seems to be an issue with this island! Everything is so limited in availability you can hardly do any activities.. even in the quiet season!

Sunset Safaris Moreton Island
Sunset Safaris Moreton Island

Hi Shweta, and our sincerest apologies for the difficulty in booking activities with us on the island. It is actually quite rare for this to occur, however on the week you made an attempt to book activities with us, we were heavily booked with a very large school group who were booked on for the 2 days and nights you attempted to book on as well. I note our tour guide attempted to get you in regardless, but it appears that in the end it simply was not possible.
We are sorry that we were not able to assist in this instance, and we hope that we can help you in the future.

Kindest Regards from the Sunset Safaris Team

Fantastic experience: Attended with my friend for the full day Moreton Island trip. We both had the most amazing day, enjoying the sand-boarding, snorkelling and kayaking experiences. All tour members were very friendly and helpful. A gorgeous island to explore and a great trip set up by sunset safaris. I would definitely recommend if wanting to enjoy some great activities on the island! Thank you!

Deanna Noel 1 year ago

Positive experience: The tour guides were friendly and easy to talk to on the trip. The lunch was good too. I feel this trip had a ton of potential however, there was way too many people in the group (even as we were split by colours). It felt like everything was rushed (snorkel, canoeing, and sand dunes) so we could not enjoy everything that was offered as it was only for a short period. When it came to understanding the island/wrecks, there was not any background information - I had to ask questions opposed to being told knowledge about the island. The island is very crowded - lots of people, other tours, and boats - making it difficult to navigate when you are in the water. Its beautiful, but a smaller group size would enhance the experience.

Fantastic experience: I have been to Moreton island first time.. it was a heaven on earth and sunset safari tour guys has made it a more beyond to that and possible for me at the last moment.. only 30 minutes before they fit me in.. I don't understand the less reviews but they deserve even more than Tangalooma resort.. The tour guys was amazing they don't just fo it for job but make sure that the person thoroughly enjoy the experience. I had water phobea and was very scared of snorkeling and came back from shore but they tried their best that I will see the fishes atleast once and they lied me down on sorfboat and took me individually.. as I couldn't do Snorkeling they gave me sandboarding inplace of snorkeling very amazing team .. I have never had that good and heartwarming people before.. Thankyou guys.. specialy the guy who tried best to fit me in and the guy who tried best for me to do Snorkeling .... I will recommend it to everyone whoever is even going for Tangalooma.. it's more cheaper and best..

Negative experience: We encountered a very rude tour guide on the track this afternoon as we were heading to the dessert. They were flying around a blind corner in a 20km/h zone, almost crashed into us, as we were safely stopped. As we were reversing back down the track, he aggressively followed bumper-to-bumper, before honking the horn as we were pulling off the track. He then gave a gave a rude gesture, in front of young people who were in the car. Absolutely no patience or courteousness for others on the road. They think they own the island. If you value your life, don’t go on a sunset safari tour.

Sunset Safaris Moreton Island
Sunset Safaris Moreton Island

Dear Max,
Thank you for your review.
1. The 4WD buses are not capable of "flying around corners" on the Tangalooma bypass track due to the size of the vehicles, and the softness of the sand.
2. It is protocol for small 4WD vehicles like yours to give way to the larger 4WD buses on the tracks by way of the smaller 4WD vehicle getting off the track (as you have done). The bus driver simply followed you as you reversed back as this is the direction both yourself and the bus needed to travel in order for you to get off the track to let the bus go by. There was no impatience by our driver, and it was not aggressive or bumper to bumper as you have implied.
3. As a COURTEOUS GESTURE, the driver honked the horn and waived as a gesture of THANKS for reversing back into a passing position for the bus to get by. It is VERY common for our drivers to offer such kind gestures, as it helps extend goodwill when acknowledging the efforts of other drivers on the track. There was NO reason for a rude gesture to be given by our driver.
4. It would be incredibly inconsistent with our policies, and incredibly inconsistent with giving our guests a great day out if our drivers behaved in the manner you have described. Customers from that tour would have most certainly lodged complaints for poor behaviour if what you are suggesting was true, however no such complaints have been lodged.
I kindly trust that this was simply a misunderstanding of our true representations as a business, and not a malicious attempt at discrediting our business and our inherently happy staff for reasons unknown???

Kind Regards,
Australian Sunset Safaris

Fantastic experience: I booked it 3 mths ago and finally went there yesterday. The weather was not that sunny, so it was great to enjoy more for us! The sand boarding was excellent experiences despite of sands on all of my body. My daughter and husband enjoyed the snorkel and kayaking. (Thanks a lot to a person who gave the chance to do Kayaking for my daughter ❤️ ) All people form Sunset Safaris were very kinds and the 2 drivers from/to Goldcoast were very kinds as well! Enjoy Morton Island 1 day tour with Sunset Safaris! Thanks for making unforgettable moments! (Just one thing to give feedback is about the toilet in the island. It was not expected level with just a toilet so late to next activity.)

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience on the Sunset Safaris Moreton Island tour! Our tour guide Nedd was incredibly helpful. He provided clear instructions for kayaking and also tips for extra fun in sand-surfing. I loved both the speedy sand-surfing and the transparent kayaking experience. Had a blast feeding the fish! For snorkelling, I accidentally get water into my eyes but the other tour guide gave me drinking water for washing soon. Nedd also checked if everyone is feeling good on the way back to terminal and we enjoyed the friendly conversation with him. I would definitely give Nedd a 5-star rating! Thank you for such an enjoyable experience!

Fantastic experience: Had a great time on the Get Wrecked tour with Sunset Safaris! Did not expect to see so many beautiful fish during snorkeling around the shipwrecks and even saw a small reefshark during our kayak time! We even got to see multiple whales during our ferry ride to the island. The weather was not great, but the team made sure that we had a great time regardless and although the sandboards wouldn't glide on the wet sand, we had a lovely time running down the sand dunes in the dessert instead! Would recommend :D

Fantastic experience: Just did the 1-Day "Get Wrecked!" adventure package to Moreton Island and it was awesome! Loved every single moment if it! Starting with the ferry ride, the 4WD bus ride to the desert for samd boarding, to kayaking and snorkeling at Tangalooma Wrecks! With this, all the gears (snorkel, goggles, wet suit, kayak, sand board etc) were provided and not to mention the amazing team of guides who were passionate and enthusuastic! I must say you guys rock! Highly recommend!✨ The available coach pick-up from the Gold Coast was also superb as it caters for heaps of people who wants to explore QLD!

Fantastic experience: We went on the 1 day Get Wrecked tour in mid-late October. Overall such a great experience would absolutely recommend. Transport was made very easy with three pick up location options (Gold Coast, Brisbane, or at the ferry terminal). Ferry and transit price included which was great. Lots of food/drink options on the ferry as well. Staff were lovely and very well organised. They were great at catering to people of all skill/experience levels on the water. Kayaking, snorkelling, and sand tobogganing were all so much fun! Lunch was included as well - very tasty. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: We recently embarked on the Sunset Safari tour to Moreton Island last Sunday, and it was an absolutely beautiful day. The tour was nothing short of amazing as we got to experience sandboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling all in a single day. Each activity allowed us around 45-60 minutes of enjoyment, and we didn't need to worry about lunch or any equipment because everything was included. We're truly grateful to the fantastic crew who made this day possible. Isaiah: He skillfully drove the 4WD bus, taking us to the desert. His friendly and patient nature was evident when he showed us how to sandboard, making the experience even more enjoyable. Kei and Dax: These two took charge of our water activities, ensuring we had the right-sized wetsuits and fins. They also kept a close eye on our safety during the kayaking and snorkeling adventures. Charlotte: As the snorkel guide, Charlotte provided us with clear and helpful instructions before we ventured into the water, ensuring we felt confident and safe. Gordon: Gordon's hard work was apparent as he drove the jetski and guided us to the best snorkeling spots. We truly appreciated his efforts, especially under the scorching sun. Michael: Although a bit shy, Michael was a hardworking team member who filled in any gaps and was a valuable all-around helper. Meeting all these legends in the Sunset Safari team made our day truly special, and we highly recommend this tour to everyone. Isaiah and the team, thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Fantastic experience: We had the best day on Moreton island with Sunset Safari tours. Fantastic experience: My family of 4 had a great experience today. I ate a lot of sand sliding down the sand dunes but my daughter, hubs & son had a great time. I didn’t manage to catch the name of the main guide but he was such a wonderful guy! Very encouraging, polite, sincere & sweet! It was freezing when we were at the beach snorkeling n he saw that I was a little apprehensive & offered me to be on his float with my son & he pulled us along. He was patient & waited for the rest of the people. Kayaking was great with the transparent kayaks & my gal had a lot of fun! Lunch was prepared for us with chips, wraps with lettuce, cucumbers, sweet beetroots, onions, chicken, hams, tuna with ice water. Oh yes, when we were on the ferry (1.5h journey) towards the Island, the main guide went to each group to explain on what we were doing for the day & what to look out for. When we were going back after the day’s activity, he came by to ask us on how we felt for the day’s activity. Wonderful & handsome young man! Our 5is definitely for him! Kindly positively appraise him! Thank you!

Fantastic experience: Really pleasantly surprised with the outcome of this tour! Did not know much about it but turned out to be an amazing day out with an incredible spot for snorkelling and kayaking. The desert and sand boarding was also a nice touch and a fun experience. The tour guides are all so friendly and made the trip special. Lunch was included for us with fresh salads, wraps and sliced meats. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to visit Moreton island!

Positive experience: Really fun activities involved, and a beautiful Island. There wasn't as much time spent on each activity as we'd hoped. A bit of an oversight meant we had to get a taxi back to Brisbane as the bus was full, however staff were apologetic and payed the extra expense.

Positive experience: We had such a good time in Moreton Island, snorkeling and sandboarding. The place was stunning! Sunset Safari Team wasn't amazingly nice but it was ok. They also are very good drivers (4wd in the sand!) The kayak experience is worthless tough, don't spend your money on that if you are able to swim. There was a lot of current next to the wrecks so you have to be a good swimmer if you want to do some snorkeling. We saw a lot of fishes and a wonbbegong shark.

Fantastic experience: We begun our day at 5:30am in the Gold Coast. The day was very long, but it was 110% worth it! The bus ride to Brisbane was very comfortable, and we made quick friends with others on our tour. Rhett was an amazing bus driver and tour guide! We spent the day snorkelling and exploring Moreton Island with Sunset Safari, and we would absolutely go back and do it again! We also got to go sandboarding, kayaking, and had a short tour through the scrub on a 4wd bus (which included Rhett sharing his knowledge of the history of the land). The lunch was fresh and delicious (Multigrain wraps with salad and deli meats), and the guides were all fun and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this company! P.S We experienced so much sea life while snorkelling, you definitely do not want to miss out on this tour!

Sunset Safaris Moreton Island

Hi Noor, and thank you for your 5 star review.

We apologise for the way you felt upon arrival at our beach based snorkel truck when you went to hire snorkeling equipment. While it may be frustrating, our services are predominantly a "Guided Tour Service," not a "Hire Service," and can be a little difficult to navigate to the correct person, especially when all our main tour groups are on the beach and getting ready for adventure.

Most of the tour guides on the ground are dedicated to servicing our tour groups, while only one person is allocated to assisting with the snorkelling and kayaking hire. With so many people running around at the time, it can be a little difficult in finding the correct person to help you with the hire, and we thank you kindly for your patience in this.

We are the closest and most convenient snorkel and Kayak company to the Tangalooma Wrecks, and are proud to be able to offer our services to kind customers as yourself.

Kindest Regards,

The Sunset Safaris Team

We saw giant sea turtles and we stayed on that spot until the turtles could not be seen anymore, the tour guide did not rush as we were having the time of our lives I could not recommended this enough. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: This tour was by far the best tour we have been on! To start off, my family was quite nervous about all three of the activities, given that for snorkelling - we weren’t strong swimmers at all, and for both kayaking and sandboarding we had never done these before. Nonetheless, every member of the team was so motivating and catering for all ability levels and we still managed to be able to participate in all the activities and still enjoy them all greatly. Apart from this, the views and the beach were surreal and we have never seen a beach so clear and colourful. Overall, the day was planned so thoughtfully and the cost was very reasonable given that we would spend the same if not more on a full day out anywhere else on holiday (without the same amazing levels of care and stress-free experiences). We truly had a great time and made genuine friendships with each member of the staff - including the bus driver!

Fantastic experience: An outstanding day trip. Chris (just returned), Kaine & Nev and one other (can’t remember his name). Were just simply outstanding, these people really love what they do, it shows. My youngest boy was a little nervous through the snorkelling and Chris looked after him the whole time. Highly recommend these guys.

Fantastic experience: Perfect day tour with plenty of time for enough sand boarding, snorkeling and kayaking. Super accomodating on all fronts (including the pickup/dropoff & lunch), and well ran by Josh and Ret!

Fantastic experience: The crew at Sunset Safaris did a great job of looking after us. Everything from the pick up, to the ferry, to the snorkelling, kayaking, organising lunch and taking sand tobogganing was perfect. They gave us all the gear we needed and to all the best spots on the wrecks. Thanks Josh, Gordon and Neville!

Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic day with Sunset Safaris. 1) The staff were personable, funny and professional, creating a laid back and fun experience. 2) The activities were amazing. Abundance of sea life with the snorkeling and kayaking. A smile that I can't wipe off my face with the sand baording and what was an off road experience on the way to the location. 3) Value for money and a healthy lunch that didn't leave you hungry. For anyone reading this review and considering the trip due to a few bad reviews, don't listen to them, they are probably your typical winger. 100% recommend for anyone.

Fantastic experience: Great day, great team. Just want to comment on Rhett in particular, his commentary and stories during the 4x4 bus drive were amazing! Fascinating guy who loves sharing stories of the land and world. Thanks heaps

Fantastic experience: An absolutely amazing experience! Definitely suitable for people who enjoy a fast paced and jam packed day full of a variety of activities. All staff were professional, friendly and efficient. An honourable mention to our guide Josh, for not only being extremely knowledgeable, but also considerate. Looking forward to our next trip! Fantastic experience: I went today for my honeymoon with my husband and had an unbelievable time! The crew were super friendly and made the experience really fun. The snorkelling was incredible around the ship wrecks and the crew were really knowledgeable. It was great value for money for the experience let alone the fact that they provided lunch! I have special dietary issues and they were even able to cater for me which made it even better. Can not recommend these guys highly enough, if youre wanting something thats family friendly, suitable for a couple or even if youre riding solo this is something you'll 100% want to do! Will be recommending to anyone travelling there way! Oh and they even picked us up from the middle of surfers paradise and drove us the whole way up to Brisbane to the ferry for Moreton Island! Now that is service!

Fantastic experience: I recently went on the 2 day Moreton island tour with Sunset Safaris which was a mix of the scenic and get wrecked day tour - and it was amazing!! Wein and Josh our tour guides were warm and welcoming and made sure we enjoyed the trip. The food was delicious and all you need after the activities planned- we did snorkeling, sand boarding, cruising around the island in 4WD, kayaking and saw whales, dolphins, sea turtles, different kind of birds and vegetations and lots of fishes. The highlight of the trip was the night kayaking, a unique experience that I highly recommend - it has a thrill of its own. We had sea turtles And fishes swimming just below the kayaks and the coral at night was too good!!!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend sunset safaris for a great day trip to moreton island. The tour ran like clockwork with a day full of activities, but never felt rushed. The lunch was good though would have been nice to have some dessert/fruit as well. Our guides, Josh and Rhett, were fun and knowledgeable - cheers guys

Fantastic experience: two years ago today we took the one day safari. It was incredible! My husband and daughter sand tobogganed, while I watched from the bottom of the hill! We all snorkeled and kayaked around the reefs and wreckage and it was beautiful!

Fantastic experience: We booked the day trip for Moreton Island and it was one of our favorite trips in Australia! Snorkeling and Kayaking was really fun. Also the Tour Guides were very helpful and always took care of us. Special thanks to the guide that gave us his SD card for our go pro!

Fantastic experience: From the moment Chris greeted us at the ferry dock for our trip out to Morten Island, we knew this tour group was going to be great. The staff was laid back and friendly and really great at setting expectations for the day early and keeping us informed. The ride over was chill and the ferry has some great nosh if you had to skip breakfast for the early departure. Once on the island, everything is timed so well. We never felt like we wasted our time yet never feeling rushed. I wish I could remember the names of all the staff because they were freaking phenomenal. Approachable, funny, considerate, and serious about safety. Some tours (most cruise excursions, imo) have guides that don't cover enough about how to be safe in activities and someone ends up getting injured and ruining it for the rest of the group. Some of these activities can be dangerous for weak swimmers or people not used to heat, they made sure there was ample equipment, help, and instructions to stay safe and have a great time. I really appreciated that. This tour was action packed and casual and had all the Australian hospitality I could ask for. Would definitely do this again! Overall tips: - Sand boarding is HOT yet fun. Ask your guide on the ferry if you can be in the first group to go out. It was nice to end in the water and start of dry. Wear your sandals or footwear in the sand unless you have feet made of stone. The dunes are deceiving and the walk up them and back can be trying as you're in soft sand and walking up steep angles. I did not drink enough water before going out. Had a blast sliding down the dunes. Be prepared to eat sand, it's inevitable. - Bring lots of sunblock and even more water. And change of clothes. - Facilities are limited, you're basically at a beach campground. There are showers and hybrid toilets but don't expect air conditioning (except on the 4x4 bus) or luxury places to relax and eat. You'll be sitting on sand most of the day. - Bring a go pro or phone protector for pictures. I was dumb and didn't pack my go pro and between all the sand and water activities, I didn't get to take as many pictures as I wanted because of the environments the activities were in. (Still brushing sound out of crevices in my phone. Lol) - Be prepared for physical activities. You're not driven to the top of the dunes or in a fake reef area. Those with physical limitations should be realistic when booking or consider skipping activities. Thanks Chris and the rest of the tour staff for one for the memory books. Can't wait to bring more friends next time I visit Brisbane.

Positive experience: Myself and 5 friends did the night time Canoeing over the Wrecks on Thursday. Whilst our canoes did run out of battery quite early in the tour we do understand that there were already some problems with them and the guide was upfront about this when we got back to shore. We didn’t get to see much as without the lights it was completely dark but the instructor did tell us all about the different types of coral and other sea creatures. We spoke to the company the next day and were offered a partial refund because of the issues with the batteries which we all thought was fair. We still had 45 minutes on the water which we made into quite a bit of fun considering the circumstances. We thought the situation was dealt with professionally and given the opportunity would give these guys another chance.

Negative experience: Worst experience ever ! Very disappointed with this tour. We choose this compagnie because we saw on the brochure that it’s an “eco” tour. When we arrived, we realized that we were 100 peoples !!! It’s so expensive 400$ ! The fist activity was the surf on the sand dunes, we spend 1 hours in the bus and used some parquet batten to surf...just a lot of sand everywhere on us and I hurt myself with a stone.. Second activity and I think the most disappointing : the snorkeling. We were more than 30 and not enough space to swim. The water is very contaminated (petrol), we didn’t manage to see some turtle or more (as tell the brochure). We saw some fish and the guide catch one...we were very chocked..it’s not good for them !! We saw a lot of people stand up on the coral...OMG !! The guides did’t say nothing. Third activity...the kayak...nothing to say..just very disappointed. Do you want an advise ? Don’t put your money on it !! When I’m thinking that I put 400$ I’m just crying !!

Dear Marine,

Thank you for your review. We are so sad that your expectations were not met. Christmas new year time is extremely busy everywhere at the moment, and I understand that some of our customers may become a little intolerant of so many other people attempting to enjoy the great outdoors as they are. We also enjoy a "quieter" Moreton Island, and as we come into the second week of January, we will start to see the crowds settle down.
As you mentioned in your review, we had many customers on our tour today, however it is important to note that we broke the tour up into groups of 25 to ensure a more personalised experience. We concede however that there are a lot of people from the general public on the Island at the moment (not on our tour), crowding the beach and water a little more than we are used to.
In regard to the Sandboarding, the boards we use are the fastest and best boards available. We use these kind of boards because there in nothing faster on the sand - guaranteed.
In regard to the snorkeling, I have spoken to my tour guides, and they said that they always tell the people within our tour groups NOT to stand on the coral both before snorkeling and during the snorkeling experience. Unfortunately they have no authority to tell other people from the public to not stand on the coral which is very sad for us also. In regard to seeing turtles, these are wild animals, and while we very regularly see turtles, we do not and can not guarantee that ALL our customers can see turtles. There was no "petrol" in the water, however there were a lot of boats in the area today and small amounts of exhaust fumes were experienced from time to time.
The price you mention is for multiple people, and is actually fantastic value. We proudly offer an experience on Moreton Island that you could not possibly do for less money, even if you tried to organise it yourself on the Island with your own boat and 4WD.
Again we are very sad that you did not enjoy your experience, however I am happy to note that the vast majority of our guests had a fantastic time, and did not experience the same grievous issues.

Kindest Regards,

The Sunset Safaris Team

Fantastic experience: Bumped into Sam, one of the tour operators, while at Moreton Island. She was super helpful and patient as I asked questions about deciding what to do on the island. We ended up going with the snorkeling tour, I called the company and Darcy was very helpful setting things up. My family had a blast snorkeling. Saw tons of beautiful fish around the wrecks. I travelled with two young kids who are weak swimmers and they said it was their favorite time of all our trip. Vivi led my little one using her life ring so he could snorkel while holding on and was great at checking to make sure everyone was safe. Wonderful customer service and we are SO glad I bumped into Sam and did the tour with this company. We’d definitely do again, and would go for the 1-day excursion.

Negative experience: The plan of tour was great. Unfortunately I was not happy with somebody from personel who ignored me when I had a problem with kayak. Rest of the team were fascinated about their work but sometimes to much - once one instructor left us (the whole group) and jumped on jet ski to see Big Ray! rest of us did not had this chance. What else, snorkel groups are to big and it makes crowd in the water. That ruins the best experience. The WORST is THE LUNCH !!!! JUST PATHETIC ! You getting roll which you have to break with yours finger and then You have the cheapest additions (company Black&Gold) to chose. What is more, You don't have even place to sit down! and if You want to drink tea or coffee in the morning, you have to buy one on boat. The desert experience is cool but be prepared that you will go on beaverboard. I am aware that this team is trying the best but in my opinion it was the worse day tour I have ever been!

Dear Monami,

Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologise for the offence you have taken with one of our staff. I have asked all of the staff that worked that day if they can recall any such incident, and none of our staff can recall any moment that involved one of our clients being ignored. As you are aware, our staff take care of multiple guests at once during our Kayaking activities, and it can be a little busy during these moments when this occurs. None of my staff were aware of your needs or offence at the time, and all of my staff have requested that I pass on their sincerest apologies for not identifying your need at that moment, and for their unintended appearance of ignoring you.

Thank you for your feedback in regard to our lunch. We are saddened by the comments you have made about our healthy freshly made “build it yourself” cold meat and salad roll lunch. All our lunches are laid out on stainless steel serving benches using professional serving equipment RIGHT ON THE BEACH. We normally have great reviews of our “Fresh Cut” lunches on the Beach, however as I can see in your review, you have taken exception with an “Australian Tradition” rather than poor quality or service. It is “Tradition” here in Australia to enjoy a picnic style lunch on the beach without tables and chairs to sit at. I also note that you had the opportunity to cut your roll/s if you chose to, as we always supply a knife at the bread roll station for those who prefer to cut their roll, but as you observed, most guests choose to break their bread rolls by hand. We will be conscious to show our guests from now on where the bread knife is for those like yourself who want to cut their roll rather than break their roll…

Our company seeks to offer a truly “Australian Experience” that all other people from around the world really seem to enjoy. All of the food provided is of the highest quality, and only the grated cheese is “black & gold” brand, which also happens to be one of the best tasting cheeses in our opinion.

The ferry is owned by another company that kindly offers our guests the opportunity to purchase tea, coffee food and drinks while traveling to and from the Island. I believe it is unreasonable to expect Sunset Safaris to pay for your tea, coffee or alcohol while traveling on the ferry. All other food and drink while on the island is provided by us, and this is clearly stated in all of our advertising.

Monami, it is my kindest suggestion that after reading your review, the kind of experience you were seeking is one that was more suited to a holiday resort on the beach with restaurants, waiters and sun lounges (an experience that would demand a far greater price - yet less adventure). We have no intention of ever offering this kind of resort experience, as we are focused upon offering an experience that is in the natural environment, where the natural beauty surpasses anything that a resort can offer. We are an ECO ADVENTURE TOUR COMPANY that leaves the beach in the same way we found it. We believe that this is something that all our other customers truly appreciate.

Kindest Regards,

Greg and the Sunset Safaris Team

Positive experience: Sunset safaris was not informative of pick up at the bus bay. When we arrived on the island theres no communication of where to go for your tour. The scenic tour was very expensive at $400 per couple for the day. Only water offered during lunch. The island is scenic Staff were friendly and prepared a lovely chicken salad lunch

Thank you kindly for your valuable feedback. We have investigated the issues that you have experienced, and it appears that a couple of new staff on the day were still a little green when it came to following correct procedures, and we offer our sincerest apologies for the confusion and inconvenience experienced. We have counselled the new staff in these issues, and we are confident that these procedures will be followed from now on.

In regard to value for money, please kindly note that the tour represents excellent value considering:
- bus transfers to and from Brisbane,
- Ferry Fees to an offshore Island,
- buffet picnic lunch,
- and fully guided 4WD scenic tour of Moreton Island in a 4WD coach,
are all included in the one price for only $199 per person.

It should also be noted that other similar tours around Australia can offer far less than what we offer, yet often charge up to twice as much as what we charge. We are proud to offer our tours at such great value, and we trust that regardless of the small issues faced on the day that you still enjoyed the beautiful Cape Moreton Scenic Tour.

Warmest Regards,

GREG

Fantastic experience: The « Get Wrecked 1 Day Tour » was amazing ! We had so much fun sandboarding in the Desert in the morning, the lunch was good and then the best part of the day started : snorkeling around the wrecks ! Awesome experience, and we were so lucky to see a massive stingray! The transparent kayaks are also a must do. You will not regret it !

Fantastic experience: My family had such a great experience with Sunset Safaris. The kayaking was great for my young son, as he could see through to the sea life without needing to snorkel. The snorkelling guide was very knowledgable and special mention must go to the tour guides, who were friendly, patient and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: We have the one day trip. It was a really good experience, everything was well organised and we had so much fun! My only concern and advise is to stop feeding the fish, it's not necessary at all. If it's a national park, I suppose it is also forbidden to feed the wildlife.

Fantastic experience: We booked 2 day tour to Moreton Island with Sunset Safari and we highly recommended the company to anyone who are looking to book similar trip. Our guide were Grant and Sophie, and i could not tell how much i loved these two. They are very friendly, informative and helpful. The whole tour was well organised and everything went right on schedules. We got engaged in the island and Sunset Safari team had made our trip the most beautiful and unforgettable moments. Thank you team again and will definitely refer you to our friends and relatives.
