Compass Cruises: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Great value for money the best reef cruise in cairns
Fantastic experience: A snorkeling and helicopter tour of the Great Barrier Reef is an unparalleled adventure. Glide above vibrant coral reefs and marine life from the air, then dive into crystal-clear waters to explore underwater wonders. It's a thrilling and unforgettable way to experience one of nature's most stunning wonders.
Fantastic experience: great cruise had a fantastic time and superb value for money....STAFF were awesome but I think there needs to be some more emphasis on safety when it comes to entering and exiting the water. Nobody assists when stepping down onto ramp to enter water for snorkelling and its a high step with great difficulty for some with huge potential risk for injury. And the same for getting out of the water some crew need to be there assisting snorkelers get there gear off and getting back onto the boat. The staff were awesome but these things mentioned are what annoyed us as we both fell getting in and out and so sis many others. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CRUISE TOUR TO ALL
Fantastic experience: Best price for quality. Funny staff, good food, nice reef locations.
Fantastic experience: Excellent cruise with snorkling in a colourful reef, very good food and a nice crew!
Fantastic experience: Would definitely recommend this, the diving spots were great! Crew members were laid back and up for a laugh, the food was a great addition too. Also great value for $109, especially for a whole day out :D
Fantastic experience: Fun staff, good value, laid back attitude which made the trip enjoyable, staff was very patient and accommodating with many first time scuba divers which was greatly appreciated and put everyone at ease
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and very competitive price wise. Friendly staff and will recommend to anyone
Fantastic experience: Loved it! Was such a great price compared to other reed trips! Definitely reccomend
Fantastic experience: It was a great trip. Surely the boat is old and needs its time to get to the reef but the Spots are awesome. Very good snorkelspots. The crew is very nice and the Lunch was actually pretty good. We were suprised but only positivly. Its a very good price-performance ratio.
Fantastic experience: I Have Been Out on Compass , Reef Encounter and Reef Experience. Every time My Experiences have been Amazing , The reefs are Abundant And The colours are incredible Today I was at Hastings reef with Honestly 25+ meters of visibility from the top deck of the boat looking into the deep blue there night dives on reef experience along with the early morning dives are Incredible, teaming with sharks , turtles cuttle fish . DO IT get Amongst it you will not regret it . I am doing my dive master trainee ship aboard , for familys , travellers and The folks you will enjoy everything. i love it Life your Dreams GO Diving !!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)
Fantastic experience: I have never been on a compass cruise
Fantastic experience: Affordable reef trip. Amazing crews.
Fantastic experience: I have been on Compass Cruises outer reef tour three times and it’s always great! I know their not running right now due to Covid but we were just discussing the awesome time we had! This is absolutely the best value reef trip out of Cairns, and the staff are so kind and very helpful, even when one of my friends was crazy sea sick! The lunch was really enjoyable and the wine with cheese and crackers was a nice touch! We loved drinking all the coffee too! The locations they take you to snorkel are really pretty, maybe not the best spots on the reef as they are higher trafficked tour areas, but we saw tons of fish, turtles, octopus and a few small sharks. Really outstanding experience. When we have friends come to visit after Covid we plan to take another trip with Compass.
Head over to our sister boat Reefexperience.com.au for outstanding days on the Great Barrier Reef
Positive experience: Value for money. Good moorings on The Great Barrier Reef.
Fantastic experience: Being Cairns locals we pretty much tried all reef tour operators, Compass is by FAR the cheapest. The difference with Quicksilver is almost 50 percent. The boat is old and very slow and a bit cramped. You can stand on the front or rear deck which is very nice. Some spots aren't great to stand because of the diesel fumes. The location they take you to is absolutely beautful, we absolutely loved the 2nd location with the underwater reef structures, this was spot on. The staff is very friendly and some young bloke really was knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information regarding the reef. The trip back was very slow but we just popped some beers on the rear deck. The thing we liked about this trip that we were accompanied by mostly European and Canadian tourists and backpackers, we absolutely don't like the hordes of rude asian tourists which you will come across at the more expensive tours. BIG BIG plus for us, value for money is absolutely great, and even after doing many reeftrips with more expensive operators we were not dissapointed, In fact, I would def recommend these guys over any other reef operator.
WOW thank you so much for the great review! We look forward to you travelling with us again.
Positive experience: The crew on this trip were really wonderful. I enjoyed the reefs and i even dropped my goggles in the middle of the ocean and a staff member free dived down to the bottom of the reef to fetch it for me!! I don’t know what the food or wine was like as I was so sea sick the whole day. I never get sea sick on any boat. About two minutes after being on board we were sitting on the lower deck at a table and my partner wanted to move to the higher deck to get some air as he felt a bit sick. We felt better once we were outside then the vessel took off and the staff gave a safety briefing but rather than talk about the life jackets he skimmed over them and got straight into sea sickness I honestly felt like I was being told to feel sea sick and boom I did. As I started backing away from the chat wanting to vomit I noticed 3 other ladies doing the same thing looking very pale. The staff suggested I sit at the back of the boat so I did. A few staff members Kept my partner and I company, one in particular Carlos was able to provide me with moments of relief where I could chat to him without wanting to die from seas sickness. Finally we arrived at our First reef I waited for everyone to exit the boat so I could get changed without the fear of vomiting on everyone. It was a good day but I will never forget feeling so sea sick I actually wanted to swim in croc infested waters back to carins city.
Fantastic experience: This trip was great. Staff are energetic, kind, passionate, and accomodating. They are very knowledgeable about the reef and approachable for all questions. I really enjoyed the spots we visited and the instructions once there.
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing day out with Compass Cruises. The staff are great, and so is the experience. Would highly recommend using them for your first reef experience.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic day!!! I can’t recommend this boat & crew high enough. A massive thing for me (being a single dad) was they made my kids feel safe & at ease with everything. The staff were amazing. They made my kids first ever snorkelling experience on The Great Barrier Reef one they will never forget. FANTASTIC day!!!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic day, safety first, friendly crew, tasty lunch and drinks, and all of this for a modest price. That's what the Dutch love.
Fantastic experience: Awesome trip and great food. Couldn't expect any better for this good value!
Great to hear you had such a good day! Our crew love showing guests the great barrier reef! Thank you
Fantastic experience: The cruise to the Great Barrier Reef was truly amazing. There was ample time for snorkeling at 2 places. The crew were extremely helpful. My wife, who cannot swim, and many other like her, too enjoyed snorkeling with the help of crew members, who would make them hold on to a float and then take them into the sea and show the coral reefs and fish. The food on the ship was excellent. This cruise was true value for money and is highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Amy and the staff are absolutely fantastic, so attentive and dont miss a beat. We had the most fantastic day with you guys Thankyou you all Deanne and Darrin Safety No 3 & 4

Fantastic experience: Had the best day ever with compass cruises, the food was awesome too 10/10
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved it. The crew was funny, friendly and knowledgeable
Fantastic experience: So gald I picked this tour company to book with today! My instructor and and all the crew were great; very friendly, helpful, funny and made me feel super comfortable esp at it was my first time snokelling and diving. Even went in for a 2nd dive!! The reef was amazing Also plently of delicious food for lunch and breaky. Defo recommend! Thanks guys, Emma - safety no.6
Fantastic experience: We did an outer reef day tour in September. Everything was perfect. The food and coffee/drinks - delicious and plenty. The staff was professional, responsive and fun. We did introductory scuba dive. The instructor was very patient and caring with me, as a got a little bit panicky in the beginning:) The only reason why Compass is cheaper than the rest is because the boat is older and not luxurious, so I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for great value over luxury.
Fantastic experience: Seeing the Great Barrier Reef was a milestone for us all & it did not disappoint. We were first time snorkelers & when we first put our head under the water we were blown away by the view. I remember lifting my head several times just to say wow and re-experience it again. We saw plenty of different types of coral, saw hundreds of sizes & species of fish, also got to see turtles! As for compass cruises they were amazing! Very informative of the boat rules, snorkeling gear and just general safety. Lovely staff who were very accommodating and chatty. Delicious food served for morning tea, lunch and arvo tea. Loved every bit of our experience & would definitely recommend and do again and again!!! Thank you Compass Cruises & thank you Great Barrier Reef!
Positive experience: Great value for money and good staff. Net booming was awesome!
Negative experience: Not recommended. They take you to 2 sites in the reef with no much coral nor fish. Crew constantly looking at their phones and not interacting with any of us. We booked with Compass Cruises but they sent us with Reef Experience instead because they said they didn’t reach number. Then we learned they do this all the time.
Negative experience: Worst day of my life. Weather was extremely bad and waters were extremely choppy and the company decided to take the smaller boat out instead of the bigger one. Smaller boat was rusty, old and had bad ventilation. I have taken reef tours before and have never gotten sick but around 10 mins in I along with many other passengers were overcome with motion sickness. For the next three hours we were throwing up our way to the reef. This was after taking a motion sickness pill as well. There was no designated sick area so a group of us were just sitting on the floor at the back of the boat or on the railing where the scuba gear and snorkels were. One of the crew member came to us asking us whether we still wanted to scuba dive which was ironic since we could barely stand up. Tour only stopped at one reef (not two) and I didn't even get any food because the boat was rocking so bad in the water that I didn't trust myself to eat. The crew were asking people to please stand outside on the side because it wasn't very nice for people eating inside to have others throwing up. So we were all standing on the side of the boat which was very narrow, clinging on to the railing for dear life while the boat rocked up and down (I saw one lady lying on the floor but I was too sick myself to ask if she's alright). Eventually I went back inside and decided to try and fall asleep to put myself out of the misery. Before I fell asleep I spotted a larger (proper) cruise vessel that stopped on the other side of the reef and the two ladies I shared a table with looked at the cruise ship with envy and wondered why we ever picked this company. The two other ladies were discussing how the pictures on the website looked nothing like the boat and their discussions about false advertising eventually sent me to sleep. When I woke up I felt like I no longer wanted to throw myself off the boat but the food was gone and only some remnants of crackers were left. Hungry, still dizzy and dehydrated, I forced myself back to sleep to while away the hours until we eventually reached Cairns. my one advice is: if the weather is great + you don't normally get sick on boat rides then I think you can still go with this company. If you want to book your tour in advance without knowing what the weather is like - DON'T DO IT. SPEND A BIT MORE MONEY TO ENSURE YOU GO WITH A LARGER VESSEL SO AS TO NOT RUIN YOUR TRIP. One last mention of the crew who were AMAZING. Especially Maddie and Alex who had to look after us sick people and who did a GREAT job passing us tissue, handing us paper bags, taking paper bags filled with vomit from us, being so professional and understanding and trying to distract us from our misery by telling us jokes and singing. They were the only highlight on an otherwise terrible trip.
Dear Amanda, we are very sorry to read your review due to the weather conditions on your day of travel. We are confused with your comment that we chose to run a smaller boat on the day. You actually booked Compass Cruises through a third party website and this is definitely the vessel that you travelled on. Is there a reason you believe that the cruise you travelled on is not what you had booked?Unfortunately the weather is not something we have any control over, although we wish we did at times. Our Operations Team, Skipper and crew are very experienced and the safety of our guests and crew is of paramount importance in our operation. All decisions are made after careful consideration by our team and the Skipper then takes into account the safety and comfort of our guests and crew relating to all activities and services provided onboard on the day.We are sorry that your trip to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef was not all that you had hoped because of weather conditions but are pleased to read that our crew went above and beyond to ensure all guests were well cared for. Please contact us directly if you have any questions.Kind Regards, Karen
Positive experience: Had a great day on the Budget Outer Reef Trip. We had a great tour and recommend to anyone wanting value for money. Great friendly staff. Lucy was a nice barbeque. On the way back a nice free glass of wine went down very nice!y. I personally give it my tick of approval.
Negative experience: Very dissapointed with our experience on Compass Cruises. My partner and myself went on the 25th of April 2019 and had a terrible time and being the last family owned business you would think Conpass Cruises would make it a much better time and have everything 110% better then all the other cruises. We went to two different reefs. The first one was Hastings and the second one was Breakingpoint Reef or something like that. The first one was probably the better one out of the two but still not really great. I understand that you can’t pick when sea animals are going to be there at certain times but all we literally saw was small fish, literally nothing else in the waters except for coral and small fish. The second on which is Breakingpoint Reef was terrible and shocking to see. It was completely dead, no colour at all. If I was a tourist here on holidays I would have been very very disappointed having to come all this way and to spend the money on this trip and you didn’t even get to see anything interesting. You can tell that Compass Cruises only ever go to these two places because they leave there glass bottom boat out there. Both reefs were only 100m metres away from each other as well. Besides that we left the dock at 8:00am and arrive at the first reef at 10:30am It took us 2.5 hours to get out to the first one. Mind you there were about 10 other boats that flew straight past us and would have arrive a lot earlier at there destinations, the boat was very slow and very very boring. They didn’t have any music on the boat at all and the crew were not really interacting with the customers either. One of the crew members a young girl, don’t know her name because none of them introduce themselves was very uptight and very concerned about what everyone was doing. We had arrived at the first reef and I asked my partner just to stand outside the boat to get a photo of him and the water, two crew members walked past us and didn’t say anything just smiled and the young girl walked pasted and was like very rudely can you guys get inside, and I was like yeah one moment and she’s like you guys will have plenty of time to take photos later. We went back inside and sat inside for another 15 minutes not doing anything. She was very rude and wouldn’t relax. The best part about the day was probably the BBQ lunch. Wouldn’t rate Compass Cruises at all and wouldn’t recommend going on there boat either. I would definitely suggest paying a little extra and go see interesting parts of the Great Barrier Reef and have a much better time and not waste so much time sitting on the boat doing nothing and spending 2.5 hours to get out there and 2.5 hours coming back as well. Such a waste of money, no wonder it was so cheap. Do not recommend for anyone at all.
Thank you for your review. Please email us at [email protected] so we can discuss this further.Kind Regards, Reservations
Positive experience: So I’ll start this review by saying my girlfriend and I chose Compass Crusies because it was the cheapest available. Almost $100 cheaper per person than the next. So the saying “you get what you pay for” reins true. The crew was fantastic. And the food was about as good as can be expected on a moving boat. The first issue we found was the boat itself. Old, and extremely slow. So slow that other tour boats were flying past us. As our boat couldn’t move very fast, it was massively affected by the rough conditions of the day. Within 20 minutes of leaving, people on board were dropping like flys to sea-sickness. It was crazy how many people were running around with sick-bags full of their morning breakfast. It took 3 hours to get there (they advertised 2 hours).. so that’s 3 hours of constant sickness around you. I must say though, the crew were fantastic about it and were very helpful to anyone feeling ill. The other issue, and probably the big one... is that it was advertised there would be 2 snorkel sights. In the end, we only went to Breaking Patches Reef. We went to the east side... then the west side. I asked the staff about the second location because it didn’t seem we had moved very far; they confirmed “yes this is the second spot.” Then quickly avoided the next question of “are we still going to Hastings Reef?”. The answer was going to be a no. We were asking ourselves what the catch was, considering it was so cheap. The above reasons are the catch. If it wasn’t for such a fantastic crew, this would have been 2 star.
Positive experience: Our Boat was not operating but thankfully we were accommodated by being combined with their Sister vessel, but unfortunately that meant less space for all, and I’m unsure if it was an upgrade or downgrade but I was happy with everything except the air quality inside the main cabin where we had to be during the briefings. It didn’t look like the air conditioners were functioning and there were a lot of people feeling unwell it did get uncomfortable on the journey to the outer reef. Aside from that, absolutely unforgettable experience, seeing more sea life than I could ever name, extremely cool coral formations, and an overwhelming sense of size for the reef and everything beneath the Sea. The staff were fantastic, and Lunch was delicious!
Positive experience: We were originally booked on the Compass snorkelling tour on their smaller boat however this was cancelled due to bad weather. So they transferred us to the reef experience bigger boat however did not receive the added extras for this tour as we had paid budget price. Our tour cost $115 and this tour $200. We were given the option of paying for the extras such as breakfast, dive experience, glass bottom boat but were happy with just snorkeling. We were a little annoyed that a young couple on our table were given yellow wrist bands which included the extras which they did not pay for as were originally on the budget tour. I guess they were lucky and was happy for them but not for us. That aside the tour was very professionally run by a great friendly crew and very safety conscious. The snorkeling and diving was well organised and the Great Barrier Reef was colourful coral and fishies. We had a lovely lunch with choice of chicken beef and a pork sausage. Chicken and sausage were tasty however the beef was extremely tough and tasteless I was told. On the way back we had wine and cheese bikkies which was a nice finish to the day. We had a wonderful day with sunny windy conditions which was a surprise as was pouring with rain when we left the marina. We highly recommend this tour.
Negative experience: My husband and I were on our honeymoon and while we had a great time, Compass Cruises overcharged us for our trip and when we came to talk to the manager, she was not available and would not answer our emails. We booked our trip online, including paying in advance for wet suits, renting an underwater camera, and for two resort dives. Unfortunately, we did not end up doing the dives or using the camera and asked for a refund for these services. The company flat out refused, saying that their policy was no refunds if you paid online. But if we had paid in person, we would only have had to pay for services we used. We overpaid by $115 and we were very upset. The crew themselves were fantastic and supportive, especially Zach, one of the crew members. The cruise was fun and the food was great. But the customer service for the company was absolutely horrible and we will never recommend this company to anyone because their policies are unfair and customer service is unresponsive. This experience almost ruined our honeymoon and the cruise in general.
Positive experience: Went to the great barrier reef for the first time with compass cruises. I was a little disappointed with how old the boat was, but quickly got over this as we were off on our way. This was an absolute bargain compared to the other snorkelling experiences in Cairns, and although the ride was 2.5 hours there and back to the reef, the two snorkelling experiences we had were well worth it. It was my first time ever snorkelling and I'm not the best swimmer, but the crew made me feel comfortable with a lifejacket and they helped me feel at ease. The reef isn't as vibrant as it looks in the pictures but it was a breathtaking experience to swim amongst fish and other sea creatures! I didn't try scuba diving but would consider it for next time - also the BBQ lunch was delicious and fresh.
Positive experience: Had a great experience with compass cruises! The reef locations were great and the staff on the boat were very nice and the food was amazing! The crew ending up dancing with us on the trip home and the underwater photographer took really good photos. Overall the experience was great. I would recommend.
Fantastic experience: This review is written from the standpoint this tour costs $115 - by far the cheapest tour from Cairns. The next comparable tour would be with ReefQuest who charge $200 for a similar itinerary. Price was the main reason myself and my partner booked this tour - it fitted perfectly into our tight budget + Staff are super friendly and always have a smile + We always felt safe when snorkeling - plenty of staff watching over you + Buffet was delicious with actual veggie options - hard to find in Australia + Cheese and wine on way home + Return transfers to our campsite for $12pp - no other tour would provide this +Turtle friendly sunscreen free of charge +Price includes all your gear - Boat is super slow - took 3 hours to get to reefs and 3 hours back to Cairns - Toilets aren't great - Food was served between reefs but it transpired these were only 20 mins apart so I think everyone was full for the second session! I would recommend taking taking some extra towels so you can dry between reefs. I would also recommend using a red floatation jacket. I'm a confident swimmer but the jacket allowed me to bob around much easier so I could take in the reef. Overall me and my partner had a fab time on Compass. The staff were great, the food was great and we really enjoyed the reefs. When you take into account the price (around £72pp in my local currency which 'might' buy you a meal in London) I really don't feel you can gripe or complain. It was cheap and definitely cheerful! If you want a faster boat trip then take a look at other companies, there are plenty - but you'll be paying at least 65% more! Keep up the good work guys!
Hi Colin,Thank you for taking the time to review your trip on Compass Cruises! We're proud to be Cairns' most affordable way to see the Great Barrier Reef and are pleased you had such a good day with us!Kind regards,Reservations
Fantastic experience: Everything was awesome and especially the crew was so friendly and helpful The one of the unforgettable experience i ever have
Fantastic experience: Very professional yet friendly, culturally- sensitive and accomodating staff. Very reliable and organized team with excellent service. Good quality on rental snorkelling and scuba diving gears. Very good food on-board. Caters to all levels of snorkellers/divers. Very highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Awesome crew and awesome tour! We went snorkeling and scuba diving with Compass Cruises and had an awesome time. The team was fantastic and very friendly. It was my first time diving and they did a great job explaining and guiding me through it. Would book again!!
Fantastic experience: I loved my experience with Compass Cruises! The whole crew was knowledgeable, passionate, energetic, and fun. I felt safe when exploring sights and spaces I had never been, and enjoyed myself throughout our time cruising on the sea. I highly recommend the SCUBA diving experience for those that are able. It's truly once in a lifetime, and the prices are unbeatable. Fair warning to those prone to sea sickness, I also recommend a motion sickness medication, as I was lucky to not be one of the few folks getting sick.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful day out on the reef with Compass Cruises, surrounded by an enthusiastic and friendly team who know what they're doing. We got to see some amazing wildlife including turtles. They also offer delicious fruit in the morning and BBQ and salad for lunch. Definitely recommend!
Fantastic experience: Me and my friend chose Comapss Cruises to do a snorkeling adventure on the Great Barrier Reef. We chose them as they offered the best prices in Cairnes, and did everything we wanted. The trip out offered us some fresh melon selection, tea, coffee, and unlimited water. There was also the option to buy some sea sickness tablets for $3 which was a bonus! The staff were great, very supposrtive and all their safety demonstrations were humourous and well spirited! We hit 2 snorkelling destinations and had the option of a free scuba dive taster. There was an onboard photographer who got in the water to capture your best moments, and all photos were available to buy digitally on the way back for very resone prices! I got 5 images for $49! There was a BBQ lunch cooked on the sun deck, with lots of fresh salad and bread. On the trip back there was cheese and biscuits, free wine and juice, and the option of some exciting water sports! Would highly recommend this company for a great all round, relaxed experience! Loved it!
Thanks Fiona we loved having you onboard Compass and hope to see you again soon
Fantastic experience: We decided to take this tour as our first of three in Cairns in order to get a good idea of what to expect for what price. We were not disappointed. It’s the most economical cruise and with that comes some acknowledgment of what you will experience. The staff were fantastic and very safety conscious, which is very reassuring. Plus, were friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful, the sunscreen free and we saw lots of fish and even a turtle on a beautiful day out. The equipment for snorkeling was included but the suits a little worn. Yes, the boat is slow. However, we subsequently took some more expensive and faster boats and found them to be a bit crowded and more corporate. Plus, everything was an extra. I can recommend Compass at $115pp.
Hi Nestor!Thank you for your kind review. We're pleased you were happy to enjoy our leisurely cruise to the Reef! It does tend to take us 2 hours to get to the Reef instead of 90 minutes like other boats, but we like to think we have such a good time on board that it doesn't really matter! :)We hope to welcome you back on board some day!Kind regards,Reservations
Positive experience: Old ship, otherwise great!
Positive experience: Had a great day, the crew were fantastic.
Positive experience: I hace a great experience few years ago going to the great coral barrier and doing snorkel ! Thanks for a great work!
Positive experience: Really great smaller cruise that offers great value for money. Food and staff were great. The only blip on the horizon were the photographing contractors who were determined to force you to pay for their pics. They'd pop up in the strangest of places yelling 'smile' all day long. Even underwater stalking and popping out from coral to try and capture you The sales pitch at end of day when they had iPad in hand and your photos downloaded was painful Cruise deserves 5 stars. Photographers zero but because of high quality cruise have average out to 4 stars
Negative experience: Food was okay (3-4 star) Wine was awful (1 star) Crew were warm and friendly (4-5 star) Boat was terrible ..SO SLOW and dirty (0 star) it's worth it to pay extra box for faster boats so you spend more time snorkeling and diving on the actual reefs rather than wasting time on the way to/from reef. More than half the people on board got sea sickness due to boat condition. Not necessarily because of weather/ sea condition as the other tours didn't have such sea sickness problem on that day. Despite what they advertised, they took us to only Breaking Patches Reef and cancelled Hastings Reef! Again because this boat was too slow.. Thanks to the staff again as they were helpful when people suffered from sea sickness ; but I have to rate the overall experience 2 star.
Negative experience: Disappointing tour. Very old and dated boat, the other boats that other tour groups were offering were a lot quicker, the reef destinations were quiet poor based on my other experiences of reef destinations. Despite this the staff were very friendly, great variety for lunch and many facilities and resources to use.
Positive experience: We had our cruise yesterday and it was awesome. We are lucky we saw whales and dolphins. Hard to see them if you are in a fast craft. Snorkel areas are very good and the crews are very helpful. Lunch and snacks are even perfect. Very good value for your money.
Fantastic experience: Great tour to go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef! Everything was very organised and the lunch was really good too! An amazing experience!!!
Hi Camille,Thank you for writing a great review! It sounds like you had a great time out on the reef! We are so happy that you had such an amazing experience :)We hope to see you out on the Great Barrier Reef again soon!
Fantastic experience: This is the best value reef tour we could find, staff were lovely and funny, boat was good and lunch delicious and plenty of time on the reef. Would definitely recommend!
Fantastic experience: The best crew, great atmosphere, good food, great value for money. 100% recommended
Hi Piotr,Thank you for writing a great review! We are so glad you were able to have such a fun time out on the Great Barrier Reef with us! We hope you can join us again soon for some good food and a great atmosphere :)
Fantastic experience: Amazing dive experience at the Reef.
Hi Sathvik! We hope to see you back on the Great Barrier Reef so you can have another amazing dive experience! :)
Fantastic experience: Best cruise I had ever taken. Fun trip. We had more than 9 hours of cruise for 115 AU$. Can you beat it? They took us to two coral locations with plenty of snorkeling. I and my wife do not know swimming. They encouraged us to get into the water with assisted snorkeling. I had fantastic views of the corals. The crew is young, fun loving and pleasant bunch. The journey was good, good food .We are vegetarians and they provided lot of good food for vegetarians also. They also served wine( I do not drink so cannot comment on it) and other drinks and beverages. The seating on the vessel is comfortable. The trip is well planned. They never rushed us at the time of snorkeling or scuba diving. Highly recommend it for anyone . My daughter took a scuba dive and she enjoyed it. They always take care of safety. In our tour a wheel chair passenger also came on cruise and she went for snorkeling and the crew took good care of her in the water. If there is a five star plus rating, I would give it. It is not just five star , it is five star plus rating. Do not look elsewhere for your fun.

Fantastic experience: Awesome to say the least. A good trip right out on Great Barrier Reef then anchor in the middle of the sea, “time to snorkel the Reef is just under us” the Crew said. And off we went, a bit scary at first to be honest cause you never know who’s down there looking up at you.... No just kidding nothing happen because they choose safe places to dive. The Crew meticulously went to trough all procedures with security in mind. These guys know what they’re doing. I can definitely recommend Compass Cruises and their talent young crew.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time on my Great Barrier Reef cruise with these guys on 8/4/28. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and made the experience fun. Would defo recommend!
Fantastic experience: An amazing experience! The crew members are awesome, very kind, helpful and funny! Would definitely recommend it! Thank you so much for the great time!
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful reef to see both snorkelling and diving and great value for money. Would highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Went out to the reef on 24-Jan-2018. We spent a while debating between this company and some of the more expensive ones. We decided to go for compass because of the cost and the reviews- we were not disappointed. Crew was great, snorkeling was great, food was decent. I would recommend to get there early to secure a seating spot with the tables. Also, be sure to bring some sort of ginger/motion sickness medicine as it gets very bumpy. We were happy with our snorkeling experience for half the cost of the other ones. We saw thousands of fish, jellyfish, and even some sharks! It was rainy/cloudy outside but underwater was still gorgeous.
Fantastic experience: Incredible quality for a such low price. We’ll recommend it to our friends!!!
Positive experience: Money well spent!! The crew is very friendly and helpful. They take their time to make sure all safety procedures are passed along. The food was good and had a variety of options that suits all types of diets and lifestyles. The photographer is a packed with positive energy and always has a smile on her face! She takes some incredible shots as well! The diving masters are great and fun to dive with. One dive costs 55aus and the second is 50aus. Personally I enjoyed the dive more than snorkeling. The only downside is that the boat is a bit old.
Fantastic experience: One of the best experiences you can have in Cairns. The boat is locally operated and the crew are super friendly and very helpful. Everyone from a veteran scuba diver to someone that can't swim at all has something to enjoy. Definitely worth spending the extra bucks for the scuba diving experience. The vessel is a bit small so it suffers from rolling a bit, but beyond that there's absolutely nothing to complain about. A great day out
Negative experience: Do not spare your extra dollars people. You get what you pay for. The crew is at best incompetent. At worst they are idiots. They manage to get the boat stuck to the reef, and after that bad management, more stupid decisions followed. We ended up getting back late and get a fine at the car park. People were served plenty of wine, then let back into the water. Food was nothing to dream about. It's not worthy the savings.
Positive experience: It was a perfect day out at the reef! The Crew was motivated, the passengers mostly young and the lunch was delicious, even the vegetarian version. We had much time to spend on snorkelling, the divers saw a Shark! Just the toilets need an over-do...
Positive experience: friendly, funny, patient, knowledgeable, and extremely fun stuff. Everyone on board was always open to answering questions and pushed you to get your best experience out of the reef tour. We paid extra to do an intro dive and it was well worth the money, and if our budget was bigger we could have gone for another dive for sure! Great for a college group and families. I felt I definitely got my $109 worth (best price i could find too for the things i wanted to do as well).
Positive experience: Great snorkeling and diver tour, without padi certificate you can have some first diving experiences at the great barrier reef. Bbq was good as well...
Positive experience: Pick up was on time at 7am the bus was full. Wet-suit Hire $5, Shuttle (from/to) $12, with a total of 126 AUD. Received our snorkeling equipment as we board the boat , seating was not the best (over crowded) and u have to store every thing under your seat. Cruise vessel was good (toilet ,ac), little bit slow .Mobile reception was available on all parts of the cruise, food was very good.Free cheese biscuits and a glass of wine. Second snorkeling spot was better than the first one (both was not perfect). Drop off(4:30pm) was very good. Was there on the 1st of June .
Positive experience: I went on the $99 trip to the outer barrier reef. Great value for that money. Nice boat, helpful and laid back crew, the included lunch was great.
